Three trims were available for the 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee: the basic (and poor-selling) SE, the classic Laredo, and a luxurious Limited (1993 was the Grand Wagoneer's last year out, and the 1994 Limiteds were plush in every way possible). Also in 1994, the "1995" top of the line Orvis edition was released.
Drivers report that the 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee is reliable and attractive, and that it handles well and rides smoothly. They also report that fuel economy is poor, that there have been some transmission problems, and that there is not enough cargo space.

This has always been a very fun car for me to drive. Its great for road trips, It has a lot of power and room. It is very comfortable and is nice looking as well. With some work, this jeep can could be an awesome crawler and last forever. It runs strong for having 250,000 miles and Iv'e put relatively little work into it. It needs a catalytic converter and the oil leak needs to be fixed. If I had the knowledge and the money, I would fix it up myself, but I'm looking for something with a little less maintenance.Mar 28, 2012

This is a great SUV that is also able to be used as a daily driver for commuting to work. You can also have confidence knowing you will be able to get out of a ditch or snow bank etc... if something unfortunate does happen.

hands down one of the most reliable vehicles i've had, has 192 thousand miles and have never had to do any major work to it. slowly going out on me but it has been beat. the only bad thing about these is that they want to tip over easily. has enough power for what i need, definitely not a vehicle meant for heavy loads but have hauled 2 ton with it without an issue. body does tend to rust quickly on these, does have cosmetic flaws but has never had a problem with running. very advanced vehicle for its time, has one of the most reliable engines ever made under the hood, the straight six. decent offroading vehicle. with a lift and decent tires it will go almost anywhere you want it toDec 02, 2011

I had a purple 3.5L V8 and I absolutely LOVED it. It had great power, good looks, and the only problem I had with it the three years I owned it was a belt snapped and it wrecked a pulley but it was only 60$ to fix. My jeep was also fully loaded so it had power windows, locks, seats, and mirrors. Great stock speakers. The only bad thing about this beautiful beast was the gas mileage. But I would definitely recommend this car to anyone. I really miss it. I gave it up for a car easier on mpg's and I hate it.Oct 19, 2011

Its a jeep, its a beast offroad, fun to drive in the city, cheap to maintain,
and drinks fuel like crazy. Its comfortable and spacious inside. And it will
get you through any terrain weather it be mud, snow, or sand! ...Only in

I liked everything about this car from the transmission that clunked to
the loose steering. Both were issues that were corrected with a
customized driving style. The engine was the bullet-proof 4.0L inline
6 that never burned a drop of oil. The car held up well for the almost
16 years we had it. It did have rust on the hood, the rear tailgate, and
under the doors, but it was always an outdoor Michigan vehicle. I
would have to say the only major problem the Jeep ever had was the
4x4 stopped working at the end of 2008. The transfer case uses a
chain, and the chain became loose and clanged against the housing.
To solve this problem I removed the front drive shaft and the car was
only rear wheel drive, but perfectly functional. Other than that the
Jeep never left my mom, my dad, my family, or myself stranded and

Lots of torque, & the dana axles give it plenty of traction....
Very strong & rigid for a unibody vehicle, & I don't mind the looks of it.
Gas mileage is quite decent for a V8, & it has required little maintenance to date.
Loads of fun in the mud, snow, sand, etc....

Awesome, i love this thing.
I am trying to save up for a good lift kit and all that fun
stuff.
Its a solid built vehicle and its fast for an suv.
in line 6 cylinder engine.
i love it.
this is my favorite body style from jeep pretty much ever.
the only work i have had to do on it is regular work.
oil and brakes.
gas mileage is good not the best but its not so bad i wont
drive it.
i love this thing.

I love this vehicle. after owning something with four wheel drive, I dont know if I can go with out. Mud, Snow, Sand, Rocks, its seen it all. Done very well when I put it to the test very happy with the Jeep thang.Mar 31, 2009

This vehicle is insanely expensive to replace parts on compared to the exact same models that aren't "limited" versions. It is extremely comfortable and I like the way it drives but the gas mileage isn't great, parts and labor are expensive and the electrical system is shot. It'll cost three times more than its worth to get it back in decent shape I'm sure.Oct 08, 2008

Had the straight six. Aquirred it with 160k on it. Ran it till 185k. Sister inherited it. I can only say good things about the jeep. Never quit, plenty of low end torque. That straight six will run past 250k. It was a rocket in the winter. I was once doing 60 mph down a road with three inches of snow in 4wd. just cuts through with no hint of wanting to spin out. Wish i could get more mpg's, but for an suv, 19 is not that bad. I will always want this one back. It was hard to let it go.Oct 07, 2008

I have had my Jeep for years and I love it! It is the best vehicle that I have driven and does great on road and off. Lots of people say they Jeeps don't last long but mine has over 210,000 miles on it and it is still in great condition. I wouldn't trade my Jeep in for anything!Sep 19, 2008

Great vehicle. Get's decent gas mileage, about 17 around here, and about 21-22 on the highway if you play your cards rights. Otherwide you will get 20 mpg. 4WD all the time. Gray leather interior with 5 seats, extremely comfortable. Kind of small if you are planning on going on a long trip. Overall I give it a 4/5.Aug 12, 2008

lift and 36" IROKS with trailready beadlocks. Front and rear

This is my first car and it is AWESOME! It has 250,000+ miles on it and is is still running strong. Just a few minor upkeep repairs and the only major replacement was a new transmission but at over 250,000 miles, it was bound to need replaced sooner or later. It's tons of fun to take off road and the 4wheel drive is excellent, especially on our Ohio winter roads! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves to drive (on or off the road!) It has a ton of power for the size of the motor (4.0L) while keeping good gas mileage for its size, age and weight. (~18-23 mpg) It’s a keeper!Apr 18, 2008

My second attempt at a grand cherokee. This time I wanted to to it right with a V8. Although the V8 sound is inspiring, the performance is not. Coming from GM V8s (in my firebird), I think I expected too much from the Dodge engine. My previous I6 Jeep (see other review) was much more reliable and could accelerate just as good as the V8 and get 3-5 MPG more per tank.
I am not impressed with Dodge's V8s. Although where I did notice the V8 power was going up hill and crusing at 70+ MPH, both my previous I6 tended to run out of breath.
The build quality on this Jeep is just the same as my '93 except this time I have black paint so it is not flaking!!
The only problems I have had with this car (now at 165k miles) is the dumb dodge engine. I've been fighting a coolant leak that I would never of had to deal with if I had the tried and true AMC designed I6 .
Other than that for a 12 year old car, the leather has no tears and the interior is in awesome shape. For the $3500 I paid for it, it is a steal!
As for off-road performance, All I have is a 2" spacer lift and 31" tires. I still suffer from the lack of skid plates and no-center diff (the latter not corrected until '95). If you have a good spotter, like I did in Moab, and a few spare tires to throw into the golden crack, this Jeep did survive Golden Spike, a 4+ (difficult) rated trail.
I tend to keep this Jeep as long as I can and then replace it with a new JK wrangler!Apr 03, 2008

I bought this as a winter car for $2000 (in 2008). It's 4WD is great, I can get around in any conditions while my other car can barely stay on the road in bad conditions.
The interior is still in great condition, the previous owner installed a new CD player and it's wired up for a sub woofer.
I took it to Jensen (after buying it) to have them check it out. They said if I fixed everything that's wrong it'd be $3500, which didn't include the transmission work that probably needs to be done (it rolls away in park, you have to put the e-brake all the way up or it will crawl away while you're gone).Mar 21, 2008

I would buy another Jeep in a heartbeat. I love the good old 318. It's torquey enough, and with a few bolt -on tweaks, has surprised more than a few "sports car" drivers! It most recently towed a 5000 lb trailer 3000 miles thru mountains, monsoons and all this with 180,000 miles on it, with nary a hiccup.Nov 28, 2007

We have a 1993 jeep grand cherokee with over 400,00 miles on it. We have very little in maintenance costs. It is very good in rain and snow. We no longer own this vehicle, but we know it has been a very dependable vehicle for someone else. The engine and transmission were never worked on or replaced. Aug 03, 2007
