The 1994 Toyota 4Runner was the first of its kind with four-wheel anti-lock brakes, though these were only available on the 3.0-liter V6. Those with the standard engine-the 2.4-liter I4-would have to make do with the rear-wheels-only system that had been standard since the 4Runner's entry into the market in 1986.
The 4Runner can be dressed up or down depending on the options selected, such as available leather seats and stereo options. Still a great SUV for off-roading, the truck is good on city roads as well (as long as you don't mind paying for the gas to make it go).
Problems cited by reviewers include wheel alignment, uncomfortable seating in the rear seat, and poor gas mileage. Otherwise, users rave about the dependability of this SUV.

I love my 4runner, it has been good to me for many years. Mine is hitting 320000 miles and still runs like new. Gas mileage is not that bad for an SUV. I have the manual transmission so when theres traffic it is a pain sometimes. Although it is not a powerful car but for driving its perfect and handling is great, feels like your driving a small car, I never get a sense of roll over on sharp turns. As long as you take care of the it, it will take care of you. Once you own one you start loving it!Apr 11, 2013

Great for off-road driving, handles like a dream. real bargain for the price I bought. Longevity of the vehicle is surprising. Not too bad on the eyes, but worth the beating up. This truck will take anything you throw at it!Aug 29, 2009

I love my truck but it needs more power. It is built like everything should be, very solid. It's a pretty good looking truck. It is pretty expensive to own as far as gas. It is really fun to drive.Jul 29, 2009

Although the acceleration is at the lower end of the spectrum, my 4Runner handles like a car when cornering and the braking is excellent. I havent had to replace many stock engine parts (although I have, just to make it more efficient). The engine runs good even in sub-zero (Butte) weather. The front make funny noises when heating up in the winter. It has a great paint job, good suspension for on and off-roading. Once you understand the mass of vaccuum hoses, it's easy to work on since it is ODB-1 and parts are relatively easy to find even though it's foreign. It can fit places that full-size trucks can't and has enough power and gears to go anywhere.Mar 20, 2008

I bought this truck brand new in 1994 and have loved driving it every single day. It's my family vehicle,my load it up and drag it home from Home Depot vehicle,countless daily errand runner,moms taxi service, my feed,hay and horse equipment delivery vehicle and everything else in between.I'm totally lost without "him" if he's having any repair work done at the dealers. One of the things that I love the best about this truck is that it has a 5 speed in it.Unfortunately, Toyota does not offer this option any more (I find automatics boring and not fun to drive) So, I guess I'll have to keep this guy going for me as long as I can. No power like before
Hi,I got head gasket on my 94 4runner 3.0 6v and my mechanic fix it,he also changed my timing belt kit and radiator as I requested,but right now I have no power like before, I don't know what's the problm.. He tried all related issues like vacuum lines,EGR,exhaust CAT,air filter,fan clutch, timing belt is on right position, no miss fire,smooth engine now,and lot of things,he was working on my car for two full days..finally he gave up,everything's working perfect but still has this problem,I can not drive my car more than 65_70 MPH ..please help if you had the same issue before

Drivers Door won't Unlock
Drivers side door won't unlock with the key. Key will turn either direction but won't unlock. Have to unlock passenger side to unlock all the doors.
