A Fair Sporty First Car — As a first car, perfect. Not too fast, very forgiving if you do good up, has decent handling. You will leave many cars behind in traffic lights because of the torque but the power band ends at 55mph, from there, its slow going. But the car is quiet consoderinf the size of car and engine. Fun to drive, will not break down if you change the oil and make suree it leaks no oil. It gets at least 32 mpg from rough combined driving . After 25000 miles, I drove the car with almost no oil and the pistons started knocking, got rid of this car and got a different one. Nevertheless, a good first car

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Has decent handling. Good street acceleration. Good steering feel. Very reliable so long as you do oil changes. Lots of . Easily spin tires in 1st & 2nd gear.

Cons: No power.

Perfect First Car — As a 16 year-old, spending $900 on a car seemed incredibly risky, especially a 20 year-old one (older than me!), with 160,000 miles and a model no one had heard of. Well it turned out to be exactly what I wanted: stick shift, good on gas, cute, small and quirky. People know immediately who's driving when they see the small blue car. The seat belts are odd (separate for lap and shoulder), but I call them space ship style. The back seat was designed for the car manufacturer's small children, so my friends only like riding with me when they're in shotgun. It gets between 31 and 44mpg and the only problems have been sticky gas peddle (fixed by adjusting a bolt under the hood) and the alternator belt and e brake needed replacing.

Pros: Gas mileage, manual transmission, stylish, space ship seat belts, enthusiastic trunk

Cons: Tiny back seat, small trunk, seat belts stick, gas peddle sticks at first, poor climate control

Toyota Paseo — 1992 Toyota paseo was my first car. Has a nice sporty look to it. Has a lot of low end torque. It has a rev-happy engine. This car will get you from 0-60 and beyond at a speed nearly like a sports car but when you get to 70s, YOU ARE DEAD. It's got absolutely no power above 70mph. No joke. I'd describe the handling as ok. It had a lot of body roll and felt heavy despite being only 2100 pounds. In any case i got a high mileage car and it's likely to have been abused by the previous owner. The car practically never broke down. It only broke down for the first and last time when I decided to add oil and forgot to replace the cap and wondered what was that oily smell coing from. Found i had forgotten the cap, drove without the cap and replaced it the next day and never added the oil that left the engine. 20 days later, it didn't matter how much oil i added(i was adding more oil than gasoline, and no idea where it was going, it wasn't leaking out the bottom, go figure). Then some clicking sounds started issuing from the engine, that got worse and worse until I could not stand the noise above 1600 rpm and in that car, you aren't going anyplace unless you are at least at 3500 rpm. At this time, i decided i didn't want to have to redo pistons for $1200, that i should spend the money on a new car, and I did. I picked a 1992 Paseo and I picked a dud. The owner neglected the car and did not tell me it was leaking oil and lots of it. I decided to drive it home and that's when one of the oil seals went. It was very very messy. You pour the oil in, start the engine and the oil gushes out. I called the tow truck and gave them the car and I have tried to forget about it ever since. Next I picked a 1993 Paseo with decent miles on it, but this one was well maintained. I have that one to this day. It's very different from the first car. In contrast to the 1992 Paseo, the 1993 Paseo has almost no torque in low RPMs(it's really sluggish, ha ha). but when you get to 45 mph, it takes off like a rocket and easily hits over a hundred miles an hour without even trying, but please, don't talk about low end torque, it doesn't have any, it's an auto. grrrrr. A Paseo probably has one of the best steering feels you will get out of a car. It either comes with lots of low-end torque, and no power on the freeway, or it's got power for the freeway and hardly any torque on the street, that's why anybody decent who has this car wants to modify it only to find out that they'd have to fabricate everything that goes into the car, or they'll be paying as much as another car simply to turn it into a performance machine. If you have one of these cars, oil changes are a must. It's probably the only really weak point, apart from the fact that it's next to impossible to get performance parts for this engine or to tweak it at all.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Driving and Steering feel, handling, fuel economy, reliability, looks/style

Cons: back seats

Reliable Little Car With Nice Race Style Seats — I got this car for 500 with 189,900 miles on it. Had some issues but this car is one of the easiest cars to repair ever. No matter whatever issues it has it will not die. Almost all paseo's were stick and five speed is fun. No matter what this car will not die. I don't want it to but it is a wonderful beater with a heater. Biggest negative is that the backseat is not good for anyone over 4', seriously a toddler in a car seat would get stuck back there. The back window is very, very low. Excellent car with very comfy seats.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Reliable

Cons: Very low back seats, anyone older than a toddler will get stuck

Great Car For The Price! — Bought this car a bit over a year ago for $2800AU, and it hasn't let me down yet. It performs pretty well for a 1.5L, pretty quick off the mark and enough grunt to get you out of sticky stiuations. There are a couple of rattle's in the doors but other than that it's pretty sound (and i could probably fix them if i thought it was worth the effort). It's not half bad looking, especially when i get around to washing it (tip. before 1995 they had the better looking spoiler). One thing though, the backseat is really small, and you really have to look at it as a 2 seater with an 'emergency backseat', or a backseat for very short people, the back window is just very low and you'll struggle to fit anyone 6ft in the back. But because of this it's fantastic on fuel, i get 100km on about 6L. So far maintanence has been pretty cheap, it's costed me under $500 in general maintainence (ie. wheel allignment/balance etc.) and a couple of new tyres. I enjoy driving it, but it's not like i have owned a ferari in the past so i don't have huge expectations.

Pros: Drives well, reliable, not half bad looking, great fuel economy

Cons: Not much of a back seat.

Toyota Paseo El44 — Looks pretty good, but it's not anywhere near as fast as it should be. I'm onto my second engine and radiator, while needing new front and rear rotors - the reason you should get your car serviced by Toyota and Toyota alone. It's fun to drive and good on fuel though

Pros: It's fun

Cons: It's slow and has no longetivity.
