The 1996 Toyota Paseo was totally redesigned in 1996. On the outside, the Paseo got a sleeker front-end, a larger back end, and sleeker lines overall. The new Paseo got a number of new safety features, including include dual airbags and side-impact protection. A number of new upgrades are also available, including a moon roof, a higher-end sound system, and aluminum wheels. All Paseo engines were now rated at 93 horsepower.
The 1996 Toyota Paseo was available in one trim level, a two-door coupe. The engine was a 1.5-liter four-cylinder. A five-speed manual transmission was standard, with the option of a four-speed automatic. Fuel economy was about 26/34 mpg.
Drivers like the 1996 Toyota Paseo for its sporty looks, good fuel economy, and low price. They also like how reliable they are. Some Paseo fans were disappointed by the car’s new looks; they thought the new styling was more generic looking, and were particularly dismayed by the back end. Drivers also find the 1996 Paseo to be too small, especially in the back seat, and that it is underpowered.

This is a fun little car to drive to and from work or wherever you need to go. I'm
never bored when I'm in my car. It's a fairly sturdy one for it's age too, a couple
rattles and squeaks but nothing major. The interior is very logically laid out and
everything is within arm's reach. The styling of the car is something that I get
compliments on all the time, and the question "What is that?" is almost unavoidable.
She gets phenomenal gas mileage, easily twice to three times what my old
Mountaineer got. The maintenance fees are really low too. :)Jul 28, 2010

It's a decent economy car. If you're looking for a mundane car that doesn't really stand out but is good on gas, it's ideal. The performance is lacking, but that's to be expected. All together it's pretty solid for what it is. Jan 25, 2010

I had this car for 8 years and it had 207,000 miles on it when I sold it. It ran great with no problems. I sold it because it was time to get something bigger. It was a quick little car that got around 32 mpg. It was very fun to drive because of its light weight and its responsive steering. I would recommend this car for its great mpg.Jan 08, 2009

this car needed a celica motor or turbo, the tercel motor lacked horsepower
the car was well built being it was made in Japan
I liked the appearance but did not like the lack of aftermarket support
very reliable and 5 speed was great on gas

the car is pretty quick off the line because it's only about 1,100 pounds. small, but convenient. not too much room to party in the back. this car saves a lot of gas! with a full tank (9 gallons), you can go about 180 miles.Jan 03, 2008

Wanna go faster!
I just recently picked up a '96 Paseo and I'm actually quite pleased with the little thing. I've gotten used to power and handling and now I'd like to push this little 5 spd a little harder. I'm looking for affordable bolt-ons that'll give it a bit more pep. I'm looking at the Weapon R secret weapon or dragon air. Maybe thinking about exhaust but I don't want it too loud. All input valued
