Worst Car I Ever Owned! — I bought this car as one of my first independent car purchases, Got it in Feb of 1992. Car was great at first, did well in snow and was very comfortable. Then when spring arrived, so did the problems. It began dying in traffic and for no reason. I took it to a number of garages and finally back to a Ford Dealership where they decided it was the fuel pump. I had it replaced but a week later it did it again. A second fuel pump was installed and I was determined to send it on to another owner. Later on the night of my anniversary, it quit one more time, this time flames started from under the hood. The car burned to the ground in front of my very eyes before the Fire Dept could get it put out. It took me almost 20 years before I'd buy another Ford, but I eventually did. No where near the same problems today with my truck. But this car was a total loser! If you are looking at one today then it must be very used, I would stay away from it.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Handled well, good in snow

Cons: Junk!

Din't Like It, Junk! — This car was a peice of junk. I had a 88' Tempo before this one and it was a awesome little car. But the Topaz was junk. It didn't run right, had an over heating problem, and the electric had problems. Mercury defenitely lagged before Ford.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Don't

Cons: Junk

Mercury Topaz — Much the same as the Ford Tempo I had. It was also costly to fix, but that's true with any car nowadays. It was a baby blue color...kind of a step up from the Tempo. Unfortunately, I had to give it back to Ford because I couldn't afford the payments.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Fun car to drive

Cons: Costly to fix

This Car Can Fly, No Really It Flew Threw The Air! — I liked it for my first car that I could beat on and oh did I. Man sparks can fly up the side of a car when you bottom it out jumpping train tracks!

Pros: Good beater

Cons: Costs money to fix like all others in its class
