For the 1991 Audi 80 STD, the old 2.0, 4-cylinder engine is replaced by a 2.3-liter, 5-cylinder, 130-hp engine that was previously only available in the quattro. Paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, new this year is an optional 4-speed automatic. Other options in this front-wheel drive include 4-wheel ABS, heated front seats, a sunroof, and a security system.
Not many options are offered, because the base model Audi 80 already comes with plenty standard, including driver's front airbags, power windows and locks, air conditioning, rear defrost, cruise control, and power heated mirrors. New in 1991 are fog lights and special seats. With a large trunk and seating for four, the Audi 80 STD combines convenience, comfort, and safety. Overall, most Audi 80 STD owners feel their car runs smoothly and expertly, and they feel safe in this strong and solidly built family sedan. It also shows its age well, with very little sign of rust over the years. Problems seem to arise with the electrical system, and owners complain about the high cost of repairs.
