1990 Pontiac Grand Am Reviews, Pricing & Specs

The compact 1990 Pontiac Grand Am sees few changes this year, and continues with the base LE and SE trims in either a four-door sedan or two-door coupe. The LE models sport a 2.5-liter, 110-hp I4, while the SE carries a new high output 2.3-liter Quad 4 twin cam engine rated at 180-hp. All models come standard with a 5-speed manual transmission, with the option of a 3-speed automatic. The boxy 1990 Grand Am had seating for four, and the base LE model was certainly that. Standard features were limited to power steering, bucket seats, tinted glass, and a radio. Options added on a lot of what was standard on the SE, including cruise control, air conditioning, power windows and locks. Other options unique to the SE were a sunroof, power driver's seat and roof rack. While 1990 Grand Am owners seem to like the car's handling, responsive acceleration, and comfortable and roomy interior, many complain about constant repairs, pointing out problems with the alternator, starter, and head gaskets. They also mention the problem of peeling paint, the lack of more than one cupholder, and an overall general unreliability.
