It's odd that GM would discontinue Pontiac's best-selling car, but that's just what it did with the Grand Am. The 2005 Grand Am is the last production year for this model, which would be refashioned into the G6 sedan for 2006. For this reason, all Grand Am sedan models were discontinued in 2005 except for fleet use. Only a GT and GT1 coupe were available to the buying public.
Since it now came only as a GT, the engine was the 3.4-liter, 175-hp Ram Air V6 with four-speed automatic transmission. The performance-oriented coupe featured a sports suspension, 16-inch wheels, and large anti-sway bars, but a new SC/T package for the GT1 added a lot of superficial extras, such as a spoiler, sunroof, leather seats, chrome wheels and exhaust tips, and SC/T badging. Other standard features included ABS brakes, traction control, dual front airbags, power driver's seat, daytime running lights, and remote entry. Being a coupe, the rear legroom was a bit tight for adults, as was access to the backseat. The trunk was adequately sized, however, and could be expanded with fold-down seats.
The 2005 Grand Am was as popular as ever, so perhaps Pontiac was simply trying to refresh its lineup by getting rid of the 32-year-old classic name. Owners liked the fast and peppy V6 as well as the sporty handling. They also loved the car's aggressive look, the roomy interior, and the cockpit-like front seat. An affordable price attracted a lot of first-time buyers. But the Grand Am has long suffered from mechanical problems, particularly with brake pads and rotors that wear out too easily and coolant leaks due to a faulty intake manifold. Other complaints focus on the small trunk lid, uncomfortable seats, and the need for more horsepower.

This type car is wonderful. Good smooth riding, easy to drive. Great radio and CD player. A/C and Heat were excellent. This car was my baby and so much fun to share with my friends. I took several long trips, with no problems at all. Enjoy as I did.Sep 09, 2020

I like just about everything on this car, the 3.8L engine has lots of power, very rummy inside,

Overall I plan to drive this car till it just wont go any more. It should last me many years to come and it seems to be very reliable so far. I took one trip with this car and that was enough for me...it was about 250 miles round trip and my butt had enough by the time I reached my destination and the road noise drove me nuts. Great work car if your commute is under 50 miles. Definitely had to upgrade the stereo and speakers for my commutes. May 24, 2012

I absolutely love this car, it handles great, especially around curves. This car was
made for the road. The fuel economy isn't the best, but it's worth it for the power.

it gets me back and forth to work but that's about it cause it needs new tires and some minor things done but it has speed and will hit 60 in nothing flat. for a 6 cylinder runs good. The performance of the car is pretty good. She handles nicely, can accelerate fairly quickly, and stop on a dime.
The car has not needed any repairs, but there is a few nioses when turning.
I think the car would be best described as girly sport. It doesn't look like a muscle car, but it definately has some spunk. The interior is nothing fancy, but it is comfortable.
She gets decent mileage, I believe about 30 mpg, and maintenance has been good so far.

I have had two of the Pontiac Grand Am SE. The first was an 01' and the current is an 03'
both are good cars for the money. They are fun to drive but not a ton of power for the auto enthusiasts. They do nothing exceptionally but do everything well.
My bigest tip is that the GT is the same as an SE except for a spoiler (which comes on some SE cars) a "GT" wheel package (also comes on some SE cars) and a factory installed cold air intake.
I installed a K+N air intake that is better than the factory installed one for under $100. It gave it a better performance boost than the factory GT package would have at a far more reasonable cost. Jul 19, 2008

My 05 grand am 3.4 V6, out of the blue started having idling problems,it started from 500-1500 rpm surges for a few seconds then stalls. It will restart, but it may do the same thing or idle fine like
The car will surge at idle from,500-1500rpms then stall. It will restart sometimes with the same problem and other times not. The surges will last for 5-10 seconds. It drives on the highway fine, but you don't know what to expect when you slow down. Fuel pressure is normal, I have blocked off the EGR valve with no change, changed IAC valve with no change. Spark plugs look like they are in a lean burn situation after this happens. The ignition switch was replaced six months ago. Engine code says multiple cylinder misfires. Please help, maybe the TPS next?
