can't get tailights working - brake & turn(s) do work
checked fuse and bulbs, but tail lights will not come on at all, turn signals and brake light works fine as do the hazards, anyone have any ideas?

Bought mine new for $10,000 in 1990. Now has about 245k miles on it and still runs great thanks to the wonderful mechanics I have had. Best trip in it was to tip of Baja California and back, before they built the airports down there. Those were the days... There is nothing on the market to replace it, so I will keep it as long as I can! Im a 63-year-old woman, retired salmon and wildlife biologist. Nov 09, 2024

I love this truck still. Which is why I still have it.
It has/had it all - Comfort, Quality and Performance.
It's been an "outdoor car" most of its life & paint job is showing.
A small tear in the upholstery on driver seat.
Cassette player is obsolete now.May 25, 2015

Almost hate to get rid of it. Bought a 1995 just like it only red. Cleaned and waxed it and have made it hard to drive my new 1995. It will make someone a real nice truck for the money!Aug 13, 2011

when I was 16 and it was my first car. I had it
for 10 years. I actually sold it once and then
bought it back from the person I sold it to the
next year. I missed it so much. I drove it from
44K miles to 140K miles before the head gasket
finally blew. I was forced to buy a new car and
sell this one to my mechanic. I still think

This truck is amazing i have an 89 sr5 extended cab and it has to be my most favorite truck in the world. with 200k miles and still hauls its built like nothing else. its a 5 speed stick. and it gets crazy good mpg. the back seats fold up for more room in the back of the cab, and the drivers seats have great lumbar support controll. this is an amazing car to drive.Nov 04, 2009

it very reilable tough truck, 4wd is unstoppedable offroad ever! the gas mileage is ok, but better then V8 gasmilage. the V6 engines are not tough engine, a 22RE 4cylinder inline is toughtest bulletproof engine ever build. toyota pick up is really fun driveable truck, and i love to drive standard than auto. the performance is not for racing, it real last longest truck on road trucks and offroad. the gears ratio is very high torque ends and less speed. I owned the truck for a short while. Nissy (Nissan Pulsar) died with another clutch job and I traded the Nissan in for the Toyota. I was also moving to Colorado at the time, so the truck was a good selection over the sporty small car.
The truck worked great, even with freezing engine oil. It hauled the dogs and stuff to Colorado.Sep 25, 2009

the thing is 20 years old. it ain't gonna be perfect. no car is perfect. its prolly the most reliable engine ever. they are pretty much indestructible. best thing is, they can pop wheelies! no joke. seen it. foreign isn't always bad. Aug 29, 2009

Stock toyota suspension blows. the engine has plenty of pulling power and acceleration for what it is. It has great lines, easy mods, and effecient. They were right when it got truck of the year!! If you're looking for a great Toyota truck look no further.Jun 13, 2009

The appearance of this truck is beautiful. I have been told on numerous occasions that people can't believe it is an 89. The motor is strong and has lots of torque, but when it comes to the freeway it's kinda a dog, very comfortable interior and everything from the factory still works great. Has needed a new stereo since I bought it but it works so I'm living with it. What else can I say it's a Toyota, basically bulletproof.Mar 22, 2009

This is the most dependable little two wheel drive truck ever. it ran even when it should have been physically impossible and its just a great all around gas saving hauling machine. i would definetly recommend one to those new high school drivers as it is easy to drive and quite a money saver.Oct 25, 2008

acceleration is crazy because of the torky moter and it's top end isn't bad at all it it handles really nice. its a lot of fun to drive and the best truck in it's category. i would not get one after the year 2000 because thay don't look as good but these little trucks are tons of fun and i would recommend them to anybodyAug 18, 2008
