Great Little Reliable Truck — Drove this truck with and without a camper shell. With the shell, I felt my dogs and cargo were very safe. And with out the shell, my dogs never got in the back, and I never left anything! This truck drove the mountain roads it's whole life, and ended up needing major work around 242k miles.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Great little reliable Truck

Cons: Standard cab has no space!

Excellent Truck — Performance is great for a 22R 2.4L. Never had any major problems and it was bullet proof. Had 245,000 miles on it when I sold it. It ran excellent and never smoked or burned any oil. I liked the body styling of this particular year. Great gas mileage. Consistantly got 32 mph, even at 245,000 miles. Low maintenance. It was fun to drive. Just a little small for me being '6 3" tall. Sold it to buy something larger.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Fuel Economy

Cons: Leg room in a single cab

I Miss This Thing Terribly, So Much So Where I Would Willingly Go For Yet Another — My old truck had been my favorite car. Regardless of the weak but durable 22RE, it had great handling for a 4WD truck and four piston brake calipers stopped her on a dime. Mine was abused before I got it and wasn't as reliable for me, but she ran on three cylinders when the head gasket and head blew, she was a real trooper. One of the toughest vehicles money can buy, as Top Gear proved. I loved the way it looked, the stripes on the side, the aftermarket rims and the pre-runner look I could achieve by removing the lower valance (easily) and bolting on driving lights. Gas mileage was pretty good until we parted ways, combined, it was about 21-24 MPG. This was a blast to drive on and off the street, the suspension could handle sharp manuevering without much body roll, you have the freedom of going off the paved roads, however, with the Independent front suspension the 1986 plus trucks come with, rock crawling should be avoided

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Reliable, great MPG, 4x4 freedom, great street handling, good torque

Cons: weak 4 cyl (low HP), not best year for crawling

I Love This Truck. — I love that I can point my pickup at any mountain or trail, and it usually does what I ask of it. Very cheap to own, have not needed any major repairs from 110k miles thru 145k miles. I love the styling, get 20 miles per gallon, and missed it too much to sell it.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Fun, cost efficient

Cons: Not quite fast enough...

Fantastic, I Will Never Sell It, I Will Pass It Down To My Kids... — all i have to say is even with no oil, no coolant. it still starts and runs... can't beat it. ability to do a ton of mods to it to fit your own personal needs, desires. a must have. im currently transforming it into a flat bed, has smoke stacks and will eventually have a big block in it to give it the power i demand. but until then it's lifted with a lil 4 cyl. and gets 20+ mpg...

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: built extremely well, except for the bed, cause it american metal

Cons: may require a bit of work since they are near impossible to find in good condition

My First Vehicle — It wasnt the best looking truck ever made, but it had an engine that would purrr like a new one, and it had over 170k miles on it. I only had to fix to things on it, brake lines and alternator.

Pros: Performance, gas mileage, braking, shifting.

Cons: 4 cylinder

88 Chevota — I have an 88 Toyota 4x4 and it rocks. It goes just about anywhere! However, I have had it for 7 years and havn't driven it much. First the heads warped..the rad bit it, then the tranny went..then 3 days later it spun a bearing. The axles are bullet proof..The box is rotten but the cabs in great shape. The seats are so comfortable and adjustable. Anyone cound drive it away...if they have another toyota key .. or similar. After I frapped the motor I decided to rip the independent front end out and turn it into a chevota, with leaf springs up front..3/4 ton axles, a 4.3 chev 6, turbo 350 automatic tranny, p205 tcase. I am not done my project yet.

Pros: goes anywhere, great gearing, great feel..GREAT TRUCK!

Cons: boxes rust fast...

Excellent In The Snow, And Not Too Bad Looking. — Good efficient truck. 4 banger. Good commuter truck. Looks good for youth and never has gotten stuck in snow less than a foot deep. Excellent traction, and has 3 safety belts. Really this is a good light weight truck, and has lasted way beyond its prime.

Pros: 4 banger, light and good gas economy. Carries weight WAY past its class, and all around amazing truck. Very good looking, and very strong truck - can handle a decent car wreck, and keep on rolling.

Cons: 4 banger, water pump wears out easily, bed has rust problems due to Toyota's geological assembly choices.
