1988 Ford Escort Reviews, Pricing & Specs

What owners say
"Overall, owners of the 1988 Ford Escort express mixed feelings. Many appreciate its fun driving experience, tunable performance, and low cost of ownership, making it a favorite among some. However, common complaints include frequent mechanical issues, rust, and a lack of overall build quality. While it’s seen as a budget-friendly option with a sporty edge, maintenance costs and reliability concerns seem to deter some drivers."
The most amazing car i ever owned!
January 20, 2008It's a very fun car, but I wouldn't get one and leave it stock.
February 24, 2008Every year they bring out faceless, soulless plastic cars and the RST just looks better. It`s so tuneable and 200 bhp is easily achievable on the series 2 as they were de-tuned from the factory for road use

January 26, 2008Not Much to Like about it really, More rust than car, Struggled to get up hills, Silly blue wheels and i spent silly money getting it repaired al the time. Other than that wicked to drive, wicked stereo, important for any first car, drained out all the horrible noises
October 12, 2009preformance was good for the time, it hadeld fairly well and was cost affective. The apperance for me at the time was great as it was a 1600 sport so it was fun to drive. It was econimcal if driven properly. This car was fun to drive.
May 11, 2009The car I had senior year of high school was a 1988 Ford Escort Pony I got for free. It was rusted, had chalky paint, had the nastiest interior ever, and burned oil like crazy. I still love this car more than any I've ever had. It was cheap to own and run because it required no maintenance at all. It handled like a go cart, but was slow enough to keep my from speeding. Did I mention this is still my favorite car out of everyone I've owned?
March 30, 2008it had a full RS body kit and sounded like a beast i loved this car so much it was so much fun to drive, it sounded amazing just crozzin but when you opened her up she just eat the road
January 9, 2008Everything except the body and engine fell apart. Too much time and money.
February 18, 2008its a money pit but wouldnt have it any other way
June 18, 2008Oh i loved this car, my 1988 ford escort XR3i converible, acceleration was fairly good, braking was pretty poor, handling wasn't that good till i lowered it 110mm, then it was fantastic,. the build quality was probably fantastic after it left the factory but by the time it came to me almost 20 years later it was all a bit tired, 19 gearboxes and a new exhaust centre pipe weekly over the course of 7 months. the appearance was very goody, it was a visually appealing car, if not a bit hairdresser, the cost of ownership was immense, cost me an absolute fortune to keep on the road from the £3400 yearly insurance bill to the constant mechanical failure, by the end of ownership the car owed me in excess of £15000.
