Very Special For Age — first car at 17 years old after passing test. Everything about this car is amazing. Especially considering its 1988. Many brand new cars out there today do not come close to this old quattro when it comes to quality inside and out. Drove amazing, handling is awesome, loves to go sideways. Top end for a 1.8i 4 clyinder is brilliant, very close to 140mph. Overall would recommend to anybody, do a newer audi turbo conversion and restore some mechanics and it would be very special and worth a few 1000. The money these fo for as original is a joke, so many out there for very cheap

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Absolutely amzing car for age

Cons: can not fault this car at all. Even as standard its amazing

Fun Car. ;d — I bought it as a driving repair object and I really like the good comfort while driving. But I'm going to change the seats. It doesn't use much gasoline. I haven't had time to fix everything that I hoped for yet. But I'll.. soon. ;)

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Good comfort while driving

Cons: Small trunk, no catalytic converter, no abs

1988 Audi 80 — This particular 80 was another stop gap vehicle. When I bought it, it was covered in mud, (it used to be owned by a regular fisherman!) but as usual with Audis, it cleaned up very well. This was the 1.8 non Injection model which also did without power steering, which made for tirering parking manouvers. Overall though, a reliable solid car.

Pros: Build Quality

Cons: No Power Steering

Weak Engine (1.8s) But Sturdy Doors — Worst part of the car is that it's front-wheel driven only (not quattro). Front loses traction too easily (on thick snow especially) and back tires are very nearly useless (just there to keep floor off the ground). 1.8 liter carburettor engine is weak and carburettor freezes easily in near-zero (celsius) temperatures. This is one of the last cars by Audi with carburettors: fuel-injection was available in the previous year models already. Heats up nicely in below zero temperatures if heater element has not started leaking. Front has disc brakes with simple design (usually works) but rear has drum brakes which can be prone to failures. Rear suspension is just lame: panhard-rod, solid rod between tires and no anti-roll bar in the rear. McPherson-type shocks and springs in front and back. Build quality is ok, lever for turning signal in steering has a weak part and needs replacement of the entire set of levers when broken (expensive). Transmission (manual) is easy to operate and gearchanges are quick and easy. However, changing from first to second needs sensitivity as first gear is not synchronized and other gears are.

Pros: Spare parts can be easily found and are cheap (most parts interchangeable with parts from Volkswagens), mostly tolerates rough handling (except turning indicator levers in steering column)

Cons: Front-wheel driven, carburettor needs lots of maintenace, drum brakes in the rear wheels

Potential Classic, Deserves To Be Preserved. — Fun to drive, comfortable, reliable, quality motor. Acceptable gas mileage, ca. 8lt/100km.(1.8lt fuel injected, 90hp) Motor has over 400,000km under its belt, still runs sweet. Potential classic. Needs some tlc, galvanised body from work so rust not so much a problem!

Pros: I only paid €250- for it.
Repair costs to date, €500-

Cons: nothing! This car just keeps on going! Amazing!
