A Decent Design Brought Low By Bad Engineering — Bought a used Taurus wagon cheap after my Toyota died. Lots of interior room, great highway cruiser, good placement of controls. I could lift the rear window and fit two garbage cans in it. Great "park it anywhere and not worry about it" car. AXOD transmission failed (as many, many of them did), spent big $ to get it fixed, but stuff kept breaking. Liked the car but ultimately couldn't trust it. Donated it to charity. Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: comfortable, practical, don't care if it gets dinged up Cons: the cursed AXOD transmission, engine difficult to work on ![]() Looking for a Used Taurus in your area?CarGurus has 3,567 nationwide Taurus listings starting at $995. |

I Like It So Far — Bought used so I really can only say what I like about the way it is now. Overall Tough car and nice looks. Aside from having a hard time finding some replacement parts for it so far it's ok. I like the way I can open either the whole back or just the window part. I like the hideaway for the tire. Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: I like the looks and the fold down seats in back Cons: Hard to find parts for in my area |

98 Taurus — build quality was good apperance was not great. the car had a lot of space and everyone who rode in my car commented on how comfy the seats were. I reccomend getting the dashboard instruments in digital. much more entertaining. Pros: comfy, reliable Cons: not fast, or a great looker. |

Ford Taurus — This car had the Yamaha engine - never had a problem for 186 thousand miles. Perfomance was average for a v6 engine - excellent handling in the Wisconsin snow. Seemed to have to replace the boot joints annually, and the digital dash slowly broke down, but other than that the car never had any problems that I can remember. Pros: Reliable Cons: Style - borring |

Where It Stops, Nobody Knows! — This car was in almost immaculate condition when it was purchased from family members back in 1999. I did not receive it until 2001, after my stepmother and my sister had their hands all over it. By the time I got it, it had been rear-ended, ridden over 20,000 miles and needed new everything. It got me all the way fro Palm Springs, CA to Socorro, New Mexico before it quit. I had it towed to Albuquerque, when it lived another year before completely giving up. My model had electric everything, making it a luxury vehicle of its time. I loved this car, but it had seen better days and at 17 years on the road, it was time to put her to pasture. Pros: power seats/windows/door locks; soft velvety interior; came with it s own touch-up paint. Cons: V-6 (not very fuel efficient), slow to get-up-and-go. |

Ford Taurus Lx A Silent Classic — The most important car ever made by Ford in a LONG LONG time, build quality is incredible and this LX came with all the goods, even a pouch on the trunk with gloves, tire psi measuring device, multi flashlight, etc. Everything is powered, seats 6 way adjust, power lumbar, electronic climate control, keyless entry, auto lamps w/timer, electronic cluster, system scanner and fuel computer, cruise control, amplified factory installed premium audio system with 6 speakers.... Even things you won't find in BMW's and Mercedes of the time. The engine gives you enough power for highway cruising and mountain climbing, it's not a ferrari but it pulls with nice nice torque. 140hp on 1986 was a good figure and only 1300! A truly underestimated car at times. Best American car of the 80's a true competitor to the Europeans. You can almost say it was stolen form the Germans at Ford Germany ;) Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: Innovative, 2000's design in The 1980's, FULL of gadgets and screens to play with, good power and nice incredible premium audio. Cons: Too many electric gadgets for a car so old (LX), Auto trans needs to be taken care off,Cooling Fan system is a pain. |
