1985 Pontiac Fiero Reviews, Pricing & Specs

What owners say
"Overall, drivers really enjoy the 1985 Pontiac Fiero for its sporty feel, unique mid-engine layout, and fun driving experience. Many appreciate its affordability and the potential for customization, especially regarding performance upgrades. On the downside, some owners have experienced reliability issues, particularly with the transmission and engine, which has led to mixed feelings about maintenance costs and performance consistency."
This is my second Fiero. The first model I owned was the SE and my second and current model is the GT. I LOVE this car. For something this sporty that was produced in the mid 80's, this car handles like a true sports car that it is. I am very impressed with the GT over the SE. The power. stability and sturdeness is something my last Fiero couldn'nt touch. The 140 hp V6 engine is a dream to handle. I simply can't get enough of this car. It's fun to drive and it allows me to manuever in and out of traffic with the speed and swiftness I demand. Do it yourself maintenance on this car is inexpensive when serviced accordingly. The Fiero really is an unique car. I don't think I will ever get rid of this car unleess I am forced to by circumstance. Just remember this, Take Care of It and It Will Take Care of You.
April 21, 2014My Fiero is absolutely amazing! For a 4 cylinder it gets a good 0-60 in 11.45 and 60-0 is about 4.5. The fact that it is a Mid-Engine car grants it superior handling compared to most other cars of its time. It needs some repairs, but mostly all cosmetic/restoration detailing. The interior needs a bit of help as well, but that will come as I get money to begin restoration. Having an L4 engine also gives it a pretty good advantage for fuel economy, getting about 25-30 MPG with a 10 (+/-) gallon tank it usually fills on less than 25 dollars. This car is absolutely one of the most fun things to drive, as it can take a suggested 45MPH corner at 75 and still handle like a dream, as long as you know how to drive with manual steering.
February 11, 2009Stylish, experimental, innovative- the Pontiac Fiero started as a commuter car and evolved into a real sports car. With the same dimensions and specs as a Ferrari Dino, GM made a rare offering from 1984 to 1988- a cool, sleek, mid engine sports car for those on a budget. Purists complained it didn't perform like a Dino, but the maintenance costs and reliability made the Fiero more practical as a daily driver. The mid-engine V6 gave me many thrills going along the twisty mountain roads, but I had to be careful when it rained or snowed- the car would swap ends fast as lightning. While honing my driving skills, this car made me look good. Beautiful.

June 26, 2013The 1985 Fiero was a sporty commuter. It wasnt until 1987, that it got the 5-speed Getrag transmission and it didnt receive the Lotus-style suspension and all the other upgrades until 1988, the final production year. There are several things that made THIS particular car special, the first is the owner, a very nice gentleman who appears to have taken care of his car and is a joy to work with, the second - he upgraded the suspension, the seats, the all-important engine has been remanufactured, new tires & alignment, and added a Viper alarm. But, the best thing is the replica/kit car body, resembling a Ferrari 308 GTB or a Pontiac Mera. Thats the sauce that makes this car special at an affordable price.
June 29, 2020these poor cars dont get the respect they deserve all anyone thinks of them as is the car that starts on fire as soon as you leave the lot. what they dont tell you is that its due to improperly maintaining the vehicle mine made 226,000 miles just fine. im not sure about the 2M4 is but as far as the 2M6 models they accel great and for saving they have a governor they go 140+ the style is sleek and looks great with racing stripes. overall this car is so fun the drive.
November 12, 2011I Love everything about this car! Bought this car in August and have worked on it everyday since. I have done anything from a simple tune up to replacing the headliner myself for $23.00! I love that if and when I have problems I have a slew of help from the internet!
October 25, 2010The Fiero has a cult following. If you think it is gorgeous or classic then by all means go get one. I got this var because of its potential. It is small and light weight, but most importantly it is mid engined. This is a rare thing to find in a car that is easy to modify. Many engines can be swapped into it fairly easily such as; 3800 gm v6, 3800 supercharged v6, Cadillac northstar v8, and just about any small block Chevy. I am currently in process of swapping a supercharged v6 into mine. If you want super car speed for less than 15 grand, the fiero and some custom work is for you.
May 3, 2011First, I have zero regrets buying this car. I got it used a couple years ago. It has had its share of problems, but it is absolutely awesome to drive. It's a 4 speed manual and its like driving a go kart on the road.
March 21, 2012Performance: quick accel off the line with a burst to about 55 then starts to mellow out. Good for stop light runs, but the car was built for the twisties. Build Quality: ive restored this car over the last 4 years so the car is up to my OCD standards Apearance: repainted the car two summers ago Viper red and jet black trim. interior is beechwood (tan) with new dual material seats (marine treated cloth center for comfort ad leather bolsters for strength) 2, 3" speakers in each head rest. Handling: this is why i bought a Fiero to begin with, anyone can put 10k in a motor and mash the throttle in a straight line for a 1/4mi, but to really test the driver you actually have to turn the wheel. yeah, i dont have top-end power, but the torque is where you want it while your huggin the corners.
September 18, 2009Picked this one up May 5th, 2008 for 800 Bucks. It's sitting at 206,000 miles and it had a dead cylinder and a shot trans after a summer of driving and drag racing it. It ran a sad 20.14 at 65 mph, but I still had a good time for my first time racing. I just put in a 76,000 mile motor and transmission out of an 86 Century in it, and am planning on doing some more minor things to it this summer. I'm either going to keep this one original and pick up another to do some performance work to, or drop a turbo/supercharged 3800 in this one after I get my degree. It's a fun little car that turns a lot of heads.
