1978 Toyota Celica GT liftbackReview
It Served Well For Years — loved the car, with studded rear tires, it could climb the mountain i lived on all winter, even after the previous owners used it to haul clay mud up from the river bottom (the trunk area was rusted out) it was fun to drive, even though the rough treatment caused hoses and wires to come loose, the interior was trashed when i got it, but some decent seats and floor mats made it good enough for me, absolutely loved the styling of the car
Primary Use: Family transportation
Pros: fun, good gas mileage, body held up through fences
Cons: engine could not hold up to a 400 lb. ex

My 1978 Celica — My 1978 Celica started out life with white paint. The 20R engine was solid as a rock and provided enough performance with the 5 speed manual transmission to make the car fun to drive. With over 200K miles on the odometer the car proved it's reliability and build quality. It got fairly good gas mileage and with a few modifications handled superbly.
Primary Use: Commuting to work
Pros: Fun, Comfortable, sporty
Cons: Expensive parts, hard to find
1978 Toyota Celica ST coupe ReviewCarGurus https://www.cargurus.com
I learned to drive a stick in this car, which I bought brand new. I had always wanted a TR6 but opted for the practicality of the Celicas back seat and loved everything about it. The handling was excellent but what really stands out in my memory is the torque and smoothness of the transmission. In comparison to my 6-speed 2011 MX5, the 5-speed Celicas shifts were buttery smooth and its torque was better matched to each speed. Wish I still had the car but I got t-boned in 83 by a Buick tank and that was that, but it was still a joy to have owned it!

Celica Gt Is Acceptable
For a relatively inexpensive used car, it is a good buy. I broke the manual transmission when I was younger because of stupid driving, and replacement was 1600 dollars (paid a dealer. Stupid on me). A... Read More
