Fun To Drive Muscle Car. — 1970 Mercury Cougar was a lot of new changes for the Cougar, fuel vapor return locking steering & shifter with key on the column instead of dash. Grill lines went back to vertical. Learned a lot putting this one back together lot of fun. Things going slow with work a d multi projects going on .

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Cars in great shape can't wait till I finish the car to take to shows.

Cons: Parts are hard to come by  and  they like them when you do !

If I Saw Another One Today, I'd Like To Buy It And Convert It To A Newer Ford Engine. — I bought a '70 Cougar when I was 20 years old, when you could still get leaded premium fuel ... I remember it was about $0.90 a gallon. The Cougar I had was equipped with the 300-horse Cleveland V8. It was the quickest and fastest car I've ever owned. It brakes quite well and handled very nicely. The build quality was about what you'd expect for a '70, but I bought it with 90,000 miles on it and it ran with tons of power. I think it was one of the best Cougar designs Ford ever cranked out. I really liked the hideaway headlights and the sequential rear turn signals ... that was cool. But it got wretched mileage ... probably about eleven or twelve MPG arounf town and fifteen on the highway. It was by far the most fun car I have ever owned, though I only had it for about a year. When I heard on the news they were going to quit making leaded premium, I sold it. I wish I didn't.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: The engine.  It would lay about 250 feet of rubber in all forward gears.  There was no stopping the power.

Cons: Gas mileage.

Love It Totally!! — Its old, but I've had alot of work done. It shines up nicely. It is a rare beast XR7 s are disappearing up here in the great white north! Its so cool to drive, I love the V8 rumble and its just so pretty gleaming in the sun like polished jewellery!

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: It looks cool. Its a rarity. It has sweet v8 power!

Cons: beware of underneath rot potential. Mine is ok but they commonly rusted away

A Sweet 70 Xr7 Drips Honey On Me —

I love this car. It is very different. There aren't many around. The 1970 model specifically is different rom its predecessors, as its front end is 4 inches longer and the larger "razor" grill is attached to the hood. This is a nice feature for smashing your head on when you check the oil. However it does look cool and the previous small cougars with no grill to speak of ( a wee triangle) look lame in comparison. The generation of cougars that came after mine were entirely different with bigger longer wider bodies. I like them too but mine is more of a pony car and is the mercury example of upgraded version to the sister car Mustang. I don't race my car since it has mostly original drivetrain and I know at my age ( 1 year older than the car) I feel kinda tired out so I will resist the urge to peel rubber. I had a bit when I first got it, but memories of changing timing chains and pinion pins in rear ends snapped me out of it. This car also has a "rim blow" horn that means there is a strip embedded into the inner circumference of the steering wheel and that is the horn button. The rear turn signals also are segmented and flash in a sequence in the direction of the turn. New Mustangs have this feature now .It has hideaway headlights as well adding to the tough look.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: It looks awesome! It drives nice. It gets alot of appreciative looks.

Cons: Avoid this car because if you scratch it I'll kick your ass! Seriously, to buy one like it, beware of areas like floor and frame for rot as well as any million things that just break from old age and need replacing on a unit this old.

Fun, Good Looking, But High Maintenance — Lot's of good and bad. Classic styling, and the 351 Cleveland was a monster. Beautiful exterior lines. Hide away headlights and sequential rear turn signals were ultra cool. However, by 70 miles the damn thing was falling apart. Had a love/hate relationship for sure.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Classic and luxurious muscle car

Cons: poor quality

Awesome — This was my 2nd car. I had a blast with it. Did some restoration to it. Added a 4brl to it. Did a lot of racing with High School Friend. And yes I did get in trouble racing with it. Had lots of fun in this car.

Pros: Great Fun

Cons: Too much trouble with the law

My Pretty Kitty — It has good aestetics. It is a tad rare now and it is fun to drive. It performs well for a 38 year old car with a basically original drivetrain. Its not perfect but a nice example of a 1970 XR7. I love my car! I was once told you can have kids or you can have cars. I stand by my choice!

Pros: looks damnn good

Cons: finding parts can be a drag

1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator W\ Functional Ram-air 428 Cobra-jet — In 1970, Mercury produced just 2,267 Cougar Eliminators , and only 243 with the 428 Cobra-Jet and Auto Trans . A functional Ram- air was only made available with the 428 Cobra-Jet engine. This Eliminator had these options checked on the dealer order. Black\White Houndstooth Interior makes this Cougar even more unique . I added headers and an X-pipe for that awesome sound , when you put your foot in it . Amazing accelerating power make this car a hoot to drive !

Pros: Spoiler holds it down , Nothing holds it back !

Cons: No 2 speed rearend like the original ads suggested they would make available .
