BMW 525 History

Part of the BMW 5-series, the BMW 525 has a history stretching back to 1973 and is currently offered as a sedan. The BMW 525i is the standard, rear wheel drive model while the 525xi is the all-wheel drive model introduced in the U.S. in 2004.

Keeping consistent with the 5-series, the 525 is a midsize luxury car and generally considered a step up from the entry-level 3-series, which is comprised primarily of sports sedans, coupes and sports wagons. While available in Europe and other parts of the world as far back as 1973, the 525 was not introduced to the U.S. market until 1989.
