Great Driver's Car — I don't like the way the throttle hesitates when taking off after a brief stop - like at a stop sign. However, the car never ceases to amaze me when accelerating on the highway. It just won't quit. Passing trucks on a two lane highway at any speed is accomplished with confidence. Also, the mpg on the highway is amazing for a car of this size, weight and power. At sustained speeds of 75 mph I average 32 mpg. One other pet peeve is that I cannot understand how a car that has navigation and knows where you are via satellite communication cannot set its own clock! If it knows where you are it certainly ought to know the time.

Pros

BMW has always been known to be European performance automobiles.  Handling is precise with a well connected feel to the road.  My 530i has tight steering with excellent turning capabilities from the taut suspension and steering ratio.  I cannot believe that I am getting such good gas mileage but it seems its near 30mpg on the freeway and 23mpg combined.

Cons

Cost of upkeep can be a challenge if you cannot source parts aside from the dealer.  I typically find parts cheaper online through the various wholesale European supply houses.

Bmw, Bmw, How Do I Love Thee? Let Me Count The Ways. — I love the way the door goes "thunk" when I close it. I love the way the door opens when the key is still in my pocket. I love the way it starts with the press of a button. I love the way the sport seats grab me. I love the fact that my family is safe in it. I love the acceleration from 255hp and 220ft lbs of torque. I love the way you react to my input, quick and precise. I love the fact that this IS the mobile man cave. I love the fact that my BMW tech DOES NOT charge an arm nor leg for repairs. I love it that you light the way for me in the dark while driving and exiting the car at night. I love the way you make me feel when I ensconce myself upon the driver's seat, safe and secure.

This Is A Very Well Built Comfortable Car That Handles Extremely Well! — The 5 Series is a great looking machine that is technologically advanced and very enjoyable to drive as well as solid on the road. The build quality is as you would expect from a German made vehicle. It's a luxury car, yet does not go over the top with gizmos. Good gas milage if you drive sensibly, but has the capacity for serious acceleration and sports-like handling. It's loaded with safety features that make it a safe,l fun and very solid drive.

Rocket of a diesel motor, Sharp Steering, great dynamics, fun to drive, fuel efficient, Build quality

Cons

Slightly stiff ride, equiptment and optionals could have been better, rear seat could use a bigger green house

Bmw 5 Series — The 5 series is supremely agile, offers oodles of fun for the driver, the torquey diesel motor is amazingly refined with generates a lenier power output yet very frugal. Top marks for handling, build quality and ergonomics. The ride is a bit stiff - suspect the run flat tyres.

550i+sports=only Way To Drive — This is the legendary 5 series - with a V8. And with the Sports package. Nothing compares to it in this class. If you have not driven one then do yourself a favor and check this out. It will put a smile on your face.
