Pros

Best handling sedan- period, exterior styling, engine response and sound, luxury features

Cons

This model will do 150 but acceleration is a little weak, interior styling, iDrive takes forever to learn

Best In Class Driving Experience, Some Questionable Design Choices, Balanced Fun And Fast — Had my 2006 525i just over a month now. Bought with 63k miles on it. The handling with the sport package is unreal. True sport sedan that hangs with sports cars through the twisties. The 215 hp engine is smooth, sounds great and provides decent acceleration, but could still use more power. Comfortable, roomy and fast, this car is a joy to drive.

Pros

Competent, solid all-around sedan; reasonably quick with decent power, good brakes and steering; outstanding all-weather capability with snow tires; good ride quality and long-trip comfort

Cons

Feels larger and heavier than it is, not much sporting pretension, controversial design, doesn't seem to want to play the same way my previous-generation 5-series did

Competent, Solid, And...not Terribly Interesting Or Exciting — The 2006 BMW 530xi is a very good car. No question - a very competent comfortable all-weather-capable large sedan. But I was expecting more than that. Why? My previous 5-series, a 2000 528i wagon felt stronger and lighter than it actually was, handled very well for a large wagon, and felt like a BMW should. My 530xi runs well, rides well, accelerates well, brakes well, steers well, feels comfortable and luxurious, gets through any New England weather, accommodates 5 people and all their stuff easily, and feels incredibly solid. It's just not nearly as fun as the previous generation 5-series. I know the design is a bit controversial, but I happen to like it.) Just like every other BMW I've owned, not much breaks. But when it does, it's probably going to be more expensive than most Japanese or American car. In over 3 years, I've had a grand total of 1 unexpected repair cost (other than post-warranty oil changes, etc.) Of course, it was a fairly substantial $800. However, if all this is what you are looking for, then you certainly won't be disappointed.

The 2006 530i Is A Great Car — This is a really great car. The ride is awesome and it is so fun to drive. It's also a really good-looking car. The car has kept its value pretty well. I will be quite sad when I have to sell this car.

5 Series Diesel's The Way Forward — It's actually the m-Sport 3lt Diesel - wicked good all round - and at 35mpg+ you cannot complain Sporty enough to have fun, relaxed enough to drive distance and not be tired, bullet proof reliable Inbuilt TV handy for when Marielle's shopping, I can keep watching sports on freeview ;-)

Pros

HP, HP, HP, (did I mention HP yet?), Style, Blue Tooth, Interior Room and comfort in a sport package

Cons

Too much computer controlled, no Oil Temp guage or Water Temp guage.

A Family Beast — if you can't afford an M5, this is not only close to that, but in the Sport version you get a great suspension without being overly firm and comfortable for the family to ride in. Another big bonus is that the cost for maintenance is much lower than the M version. At 365HP, you are just 34 short of the E36 M5, and the gas mileage I have been getting is above 22mph!

Looks Great From All Angles; A Technology Tour-de-force — Great car. Not as ubiquitous as the 3-series. The Auburn interior (the orangy one) is a head- turner. No problems with the iDrive -- I love it. Roomy, huge trunk, good cabin storage. Looks good from all angles (though I wasn't crazy about the Bangle-styled 5-series when it came out a few years ago). The 525i has been adequate and then some. Decent mileage.

The 5 Series Is Thee Ultimate Driving Machine. — Great power and handling. I've owned a 2000 528i and a 2006 550i. Both had the manual transmission. The 550i was 71k new back in 06. It had Heads up display and transferred your contacts via bluetooth into the car.

i like to drive it, it is very comfortable and handles like a dream. also it has wery great gas milage.

Cons

reliability, i have just in a few months changed front shocks and springs, window wiper motor, front wheel bearing and more. also thi car is not made for snow, i live in iceland for heavens sake:)

Beutiful And Comfy Car Handles Great. Great Milage. But Breaks Down From Time To Time — though it has only a 2 liter diesel motor it performs very well, 165 horsepowers and yet very great milage. accelerates almost like a v8 and breaks are very powerful. it is a very beautiful car inside and out and a perfect build i think, it is perfectly sound insulated, almost no road sound and music sounds great in it. it has needed repairs and parts are not cheap. a very comfortable car and great to drive
