2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Caught Fire

Asked by PissedoffCAjun Jun 29, 2023 at 10:00 AM about the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4WD

Question type: General

My 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Caught Fire below the
infotainment center on Sunday the 25th of June. My friend in passenger seat
is in a wheelchair and unable to walk right now. As soon as we smelled
smoke and saw flames we pulled over to try and open up back hatch to get
out her wheelchair it would not open. So Thank God the fire station was
about a block and a half away. We poured water on the flames to make it
there without burning alive. We got her out and since she didn't have her
wheelchair we had to scoot her on the ground away from the car. The
firemen were able to put out the fire but the car is totaled. My insurance
company USAA is only giving me enough to pay off the car. How do I go
about getting Jeep to compensate in any way? Do I need a lawyer? I had the
car for only two years and it only had 80,000 miles. Kept up with all service
and never had any issues with it. I Loved my car! Any advise would be
helpful. Has anyone had Jeep pay any compensation? It's their product we
should not be responsible for their ill designed electrical system. The recall I
received advised at this time there is no fix and that they would contact me
when there was one, but for now park outside incase your car burst into
flames. Really??? I never thought this would happen to me but it has and
now I am in no position to buy a new vehicle or even a cash car.

Ok, you have two problems. First your insurance company will only pay you the value of the vehicle at the time of destruction. Second it sounds like you're out of warranty. So, what I would do is let the insurance company pay off the vehicle and move on. Even if you got it fixed I can guarantee it'll never be right again! Also, the fact that you and your passenger were not hurt is worth more than any vehicle on the planet! Count your blessings! Jim

The insurance company is going to go the cheapest route, find the fair market value of the vehicle and compare the difference. I advise you to at least talk with an accident attorney, and see if they thing you have a case, first consult is usually free. You were indeed fortunate no one was hurt or killed as those fires can really take off once they start.
