Asked by TexOnt Jan 18, 2017 at 10:09 AM about the 1995 Jeep Cherokee SE 4-Door 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Jeep was becoming hard to start.
Shop tested and said all was OK Alternator, Starter, Wires, Plugs, ETC.
Said needed a new CPS (Crankshaft Position Sensor) They Installed.
Next day it started no problem drove 20 miles.
Parked for about 20 Minutes.
Would not start.
Cranks until you almost run the battery down but does not fire.
Does not even try to fire, just cranks.
Called tow truck.
By the time he got there I had tried it and it fired right up.
Shop said needs new Computer
They installed new PCM.
Next day it started no problem.
Drove 5 miles shut off.
15 minutes later will not start.
Cranks great but does not fire.
Sat for 20 minutes then it fired right up no problem.
Back to shop and they cannot find anything wrong with it.

Anyone have same problem?
Can anyone help?

Fuel pressure ok? Injectors ok? I once had a problem like this with the fuel pump, when cold, everything ok, when just a bit hot...hell broke loose. Also, the ignition coil could be making problems when hot. And if you change the CPS, maybe the camshaft position sensor is the problem but it would show a MIL code 99% of the time. All these things I wrote about, started making problems only when hot, when the cars ran a few miles...

shop says every tests shows all is OK and they can not get it to duplicate what was happening.
