bushings need to be replaced. Take it to a reputable tire/brake shop, have to change mine a couple times a year costs about $25 each time. But I drive on pretty rough roads a lot. Mine is a 2003 also and I have 240,000 miles on it

Mine is always worse when it's cold, and louder over bumps, especially speed bumps or dips in the pavement - terribly embarrassing in parking lot.........
