Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1997 Chevy silverado. One morning I went
to start my truck and it wouldnt start. It's turning
over and getting gas because it back fired after
cranking it for a few seconds. I replaced spark
plugs and spark plug wires, I replace crankshaft
sensor and drained the gas lines then put frsh gas
in it (even though it was already fresh). I am
stumped and cannot figure out what else I should
do.

The best thing to do instead of a lot of guessing is go to auto parts store like autozone and rent a scanner to read the codes they will ask for a deposit but you will get it back when you bring to scanner back. But just to guess I have found out that on that vehicle most of the time it is camshaft sensor but like I said it is just a guess.

Okay since I've already replaced the crankshaft sensor, I'll go rent one. Thanks

Mines doing the same thing . Put it on the machine and it said crank shaft position sensor. Put a new one on still wont crank.

your timing could have jumped a couple cogs that would make it backfire that is the only thing that will make it backfire

first, listen to see if you can hear fuel pump turn on? if not first check fuse and relay. when was last time you changed fuel filter and fuel pump? how many miles? more info on vehicle, miles, all maintenance of changed parts in past up to now?

oh if you can not here fuel pump, go under hood, release fuel pressure on fuel rail and try again. if you hear it? good if not have a buddy pound on bottom of tank with rubber hammer, wood board whatever and if you get it to run a little or running? fuel pump is going bad. do this before buying anything!
