Some makes have this function but this Chevy doesn’t have that.

When an oil pressure sensor reads somewhat low pressure, it illuminates the CEL, alerting the driver to a potential problem. When it reads significantly low, below manufacturer's specs, the computer also shuts off the engine to prevent extensive damage. Of course, that's if the oil pressure sensor is function correctly, so anytime you have signs of a lubrication problem, stop the engine and check actual pressure with an added gauge.
