What's a good battery to upgrade to?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an original Subaru battery that only has 356 Cold Crank Amps, and had
problems with it this colder winter. It would turn over a lot before starting at
times and had to jump it another time.  We've had to be sure to turn off
everything, etc which is not how I intend to use my new Subie.  What would be
a good battery with good cold starting to upgrade to? Thanks

Optima batteries are excellent. Interstate also makes good batteries. I installed an Optima 8020 164 35 RedTop in my Forester and it has 720 CCA.

Thanks- do you know if it messes up the electronics or key fob when I disconnect the old battery?

If you want a reliable battery with a guarantee for 3 years unconditional...and another 3 years prorated.....call the AAA. They will come and install it for you, check your charging system as part of your membership benefits and be at your side no matter where you are in the USA....how can you beat this?

After some research, I discovered that I didn't have to stick with the limiting group 25 battery that came with it. I put in a group 34 battery from Costco for only $95 which has 800 CCA, which went on without any modifications. I bought a $15 settings saver on Amazon which worked perfectly so I didn't lose any settings when I unplugged the old battery. No more problems starting!

guru: I have a 2018 outback touring, 3.6. What setting saver did you buy? Was it battery specific? I'm upgrading my battery but don't have costco, thinking of the Optima8020. Thanks

Jme Jazzi Sorry just saw this. It was a generic one on Amazon, nothing special. VSTM OBD II Vehicle ECU Emergency Power Supply Cable Memory Saver (3Meter) with Alligator Clip-On 12V Car Battery Cigarette Lighter Power Extension Socket.

Jme Jazzi; Purchased used 2018 Outback Touring Jan 10. Jan 12 electric locks, alert alarms, radio acting independently strange. Locks ‘unlock’ anytime day/night and two nights ago liftgate standing open in the early morning—battery dead. Thinking: dying battery may have caused electrical malfunctions, but have seen terrible ratings now with similar problems for this vehicle. Hoping new battery cures ills
