How do i remove a gas cap that has a key broken off in the lock?

Asked by Felicia Mar 18, 2015 at 10:55 AM about the 1989 Buick Century Custom Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When i got my car i was able to
pump fuel in it a few times because i
could easily remove the gas cap
even though there was (is) a key
broken off in the lock. Now i am
getting close to only having an eighth
of a tank of gasoline left and i tried to
remove the cap the other day and it
will not come off, it feels as if it were
stripped or something likewise.
Please help!

So it finally locked itself- why did you not just go to AutoZone and buy a regular cap when you had the chance? Oh well, now you will have to deal with it- there is no answer I can give that will be a quick, easy solution- just try to butcher it off by breaking it apart- but don't damage the filler neck-
