I am looking at the Mercedes ML and wondering if the diesel blue tec is noisy like traditional diesels. My husband is not interested in a diesel, because he is used to the traditional noisy diesel engine. But I am telling him but I don't think it is that way anymore. Does anybody have pros and cons against a diesel ?

the newer diesels are noise improved , along with clean burning at the tailpipe, but that all comes with added grief . new diesel sales are way off expectations lately . that's saying something!
7j is right on- the new European diesels are quiet and smog free- a leap forward in technology- if this is your thing just drag your husband along for a test drive- he will be amazed- not my thing tho- a regular gas engine is improved these days, also, and seems to be unquestionable-

Thank you so much for these answers. It is very helpful. But I am curious as to why the regular gas engines are more preferred. I read that the diesels have a much longer life to them. Can you tell me why gas engines are still much more preferred and popular?
