How do I replace my alternator in my 2000 Chrysler Sebring?

Asked by Superbeast Aug 07, 2014 at 01:13 AM about the 2000 Chrysler Sebring JXi Convertible FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I saw a video on how to remove the alternator. But there was no video available on how to replace it with a new one. I looked in my car and the tension belt is NOT spring loaded and I do not know how to reset the tension. Can anyone help me?

The idler is spring loaded. Use a 3/8 ratchet and back it off.

car repair, 101- when replacing something- installation is the opposite of removal- don't need no STEENKIN' video- really, I'm trying to help you- in my own condescending way- if you want to start working on cars to save money, get an easier car to work on- an older car- something owned by a grandma- then spend years, repairing various kinds of cars with various problems to learn all the little tricks and proper procedures- that's why a GOOD mechanic charges good money- as to your problem, the belt driving the alternator is not spring loaded, it is adjusted to the proper tension-
