2007 versa has 147k miles, mechanic told wife heater core is bad. Windows
flog up, coolant leaking for overflow tank. What cause core to go bad, what id
repair cost?,

Apparently the heater core is leaking. Get a quote to know the cost. It won't be cheap.

The heater core is like any other part of the vehicle, it wears out. Yours is 13 years old. That's why it failed. Hope that helps! Jim
