Antifreeze

Asked by Kylasmomstime1 Sep 26, 2016 at 09:40 PM about the 2004 Volkswagen Passat GLS Wagon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The antifreeze in my car leaked on my driver's side
by the pedal and flushed all out under the car.
Smoke was coming oht the vents and I'm trying to
see what the issue is. A mechanic I spoke with
ovwr the phone said it possibly is the heater core
which is expensive to fix cuz of the labor. Is there
any other possibilities or solutions?? It has never
done this before and has never leaked till today.

There is a temporary fix,but you will not have heat untill you fix the heatercore,by pass the hose,s going into firewall,it will fix it where you can drive it untill you have it fixed, the down side is you will not have heat.

yep i agree with the other two a bypass is a temp option but gives you no heat. A basic by pass is taking a half moon shaped rubber hose and looping the heater core lines back on each other effectively cutting fluid flow and disconnecting the heater core. For the heater fore to come out they have to remove the entire dash from the car. But not all is bad here since VW made thier cars easily serviceable. A shop that knows what they are doing can get the job done right and quickly enough. The dash was designed for easy removal for the air system since it was built inside all the cars.
