I have a similar problem 2001 Celica GTS original 38,000 on the 2zz engine manual 6-speed engine light comes during initial startup giving a code for misfire on number one cylinder. Have changed out coils and plugs. Can cancel the code however will continue to be reoccurring. However disconnecting the battery will cancel the code and not stored misfire code information in the ECU. After performing this procedure & it's warmed up can be driven in stop & go trafic for an hour and doesn't throw the code. Seems to do it on initial starts once the code is canceled disconnecting the battery method clearing the code and the engine has been warmed up the code doesn't seem to resurface However may take further evaluation it seems to be the case on starting after the over night & cold start ups reoccurring code for misfire on a number one cylinder even after erasing memory in the ECU with the handheld OBD tester We have mandatory emission testing here in Nashville. Not sure what else to check for. I have some confusion about the meaning or definition for misfire on a cylinder does that confirm the cylinder is completely dead another words baby getting fuel it's not firing it and it's washing the cylinder down with unburned fuel. In my particular case does it have the same meaning ? After the vehicle is warmed up disconnect battery cancel code then taking the vehicle out for a 30 minute drive in stop-and-go traffic returning back to the yard and has no engine light on, still preforming a recheck at the OBD plug for potential or stored codes in the ECU memory with No potential or stored Codes showing after being driven! I don't get this is there someone out there that can solve this mystery please message me back Paul Guitarzun.pk@gmail.com
