could a bad catalytic converter give off a MAF code

went to get car smogged only thing that came up was bad catalytic converter
as i was driving home engine light came on put scan tool on code came up for
maf

Just a guess here but massive back pressure from a plugged up cat might set up abnormal air flow issues that could trigger a maf code. If it were me, I would replace the bad cat and see if the maf issue goes away.

I agree, But get the code cleared after replacement of the cat.
