2003 grand am gt hard to start when cold

Asked by Anthrax91 Aug 12, 2015 at 11:02 AM about the 2003 Pontiac Grand Am GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2003 grand am gt v6 3400. Had the problem
for a couple weeks and it went away for a
few days but is back again. After the car
sits over night its hard to get started and
usually doesn't even start in the mornings.
Ive tried turning the key off and on any
number of times to make sure the engine is
primed but that doesnt make a difference.
Later in the day without fail when i try to
start it again it always starts up. When it
does run its fine. No hesitation, stalling ect.
Fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator
are good. Check engine light isn't on. Just
put new spark plugs and filter in the other
week but didn't make a difference. I know
there is also a security problem with these
cars but this isn't it. I'm lost.

There are a few maintenance things you can try first. Check air filter and clean throttle body replace fuel filter if have not done so in a while. Add fuel injector cleaner to gas tank and use the middle grade or high test gas to help clean out the gum and carbon build up

Check fuse 34or35 under the hood. It controls the cold switch idle switch. That is usually blown I replace the 10 with a 15. Who controls three or four things under the hood including something on the air conditioner there's a video I think on Car Guru or YouTube that was pretty good for answers

Having same issues all fuses and wires in tact, new starter and battery, new plugs, would crank sensor be bad if car starts later in day? All my AC fuses are good
