I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee laredo. Lately when i hit the brakes (sometimes not all the time) it makes a rumbling feeling and noise, best way to describe it is it feels exactly like your driving over one of those strips on the side of the road. I was told it probably the abs acting up but the abs light isnt on and hasnt come on. Anyone know what could be causing this? TIA

see if the bulb for ABS works , you should see it when the key is on before you start the car , there is a separate scanner for ABS , how is the brake peddle , is it mushy ?

Hook up a scanner capable of scanning ABS codes and see if you have an active failure

brake peddle seems fine and normal. Just makes a noise and feeling like I'm going over a rumble strip on the road sometimes when I hit the brakes

Have you done a visual inspection? Had a customer with this description about 5 years ago and she was missing a caliper bolt that holds it on the bracket. Also check for a sticking caliper due to a collapsing rubber brake line. These lines look fine on the outside but collapse on the inside creating a blockage for fluid.

I put new brake pads and calipers on it the beginning of the summer because the pads were bad and calipers were sticking on one side. Ill have to have a look at them tho thank you

Something else, is your speed sensors accessible from the nuckle? If so, be careful not to break the bolt off, but take the sensor out and clean off the tip of metal shavings. This keeps the ABS module from communicating with the wheel speed sensor and sometimes activating the ABS system. Seeing if a code exists would narrow down the wheel if it indeed is ABS activation. Getting the sensor cleaned off will not work if you have wheel bearing assemblies. They are internal and you replace the entire wheel hub assembly.
