Mystery coolant leak coming from behind engine possibly.

Asked by Guru9G43S9 May 22, 2023 at 06:10 PM about the 2000 GMC Yukon XL 1500 SLE 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Replaced thermostat even tho it wasn't leaking close to it
but just to get it out the way, also replaced the upper
radiator hose. Went and put a patch on a transmission
cooler line and it's not leaking from there. I looked at it
again today and it looked like it was coming from the back
of the engine so maybe a freeze plug or something but
could see up far enough to check. Is there a easy way to tell
if it's freeze plugs? Or am I gonna have to dig or find a way
to check? Or could it be a different line? The problem came
from when they hit a pothole and it was deep but I can't see
any signs of scraping or damage on the underside that'd
show damage to coolant lines. Any tips or advice would be
appreciated, thank you!

Know to have intake manifold leaks to the outside. That old if the cooling system has not been taken care of the freeze plugs could start leaking. Yes there are freeze plugs back there too.

Check your heater hoses and their connectors. Some have quick disconnects that might come loose from the sharp bang of the pothole. Hope that helps! Jim
