1999 jeep grand cherokee hood release is broken and unable to open

Tried vice clamp on cable but no luck! Need to open hood to charge battery

hold the sheath with one vicegrips and pull the cable with another vice- grips~...after this fails, use a long prybar...this one has proven useful even after that fails...if you cannot get something like this---disassemble the grille~
