Massive steam from radiator cap

Asked by Guru925V7 Oct 30, 2017 at 12:50 AM about the 2004 Nissan Altima

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey guys. I had a blown head gasket 4
cylinder engine. I used that bars leaks to
repair it because I’m broke and the car
isn’t worth too much. Well you can clown
me but I was supposed to add half the
bottle but I added the whole thing. Like 2
days later steam came from the radiator
and the oil cap. The steam was like a
freaking eruption. I didn’t notice it was
steaming until I saw it and it blew a crack
in the steel above the radiator by the cap.
And the steam goes so high and strong,
and when I add coolant it IMMEDIATELU
BURNS GALLOONS. I just want to be
exactly sure why it’s doing that?

Bars leak will not necessarily fix a head gasket even temporarily. You need to do this repair the correct way.

Oh yeah and you’re a legend you actually helped on my last question. If you know can you shortly explain how it’s burning coolant like that?

Engine compression (hot gases) are blowing at high pressure into your cooling system. The other possibility is a cracked head but I think it is probably a head gasket.

It's doing that because the car is DEAD and you are messin' with the debbil- a real halloween story!
