Sunroof on 2012 Jeep Liberty will not close

Asked by GuruVQQBS Aug 31, 2018 at 03:54 PM about the 2012 Jeep Liberty

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The sunroof on my daughter's 2012 Jeep Liberty would not close, so we took
it to the local dealership to get it repaired and they said it would cost about
$7,000 to repair ?!?  So we took it to another Jeep dealership and they said
that they could repair it for around $2,000, but the problem is that Jeep no
longer makes the small plastic piece that broke.  They did research and found
that there are only 3 of these on the "after-market" and none of those dealers
were willing to sell the part since it is no longer being manufactured.  So I
called Jeep and they said that there was just nothing they could do ?!  Now we
have to just trash a car that is only six years old because no one will make the
small plastic part they need to fix it?  This just seems crazy and I am not sure
what to do next.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You can search at junk yard dealers in your area or online. Some even offer to pull and ship the parts to you. 4 years ago I upgrade my 2012 Jeep Liberty radio to a MyGig touch screen radio to add a backup camera and side cameras, plus several nifty features. Cost $280.00 plus $220.00 for the adapter. The radio was from a wrecked Dodge Caravan. Stealers wanted $853.00 plus installation. I got a Sometimes different years would have compatible parts and would cost a whole lot less than $2000.00.

That last part was not modified completely. It should be different years or vehicles with the same type sunroof can be sitting in a junk yard.

Try Ebay. You can get almost anything there. If you have the part number it will be easy to do a search.
