Are used Subarus a good deal?

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I am interested in buying a used subaru outback. I currently drive a mini cooper which I love but I need something wtih more room that's good in the snow. I don't want to pay 30k for a new car and have been looking at used models. All I'm seeing are cars with high mileage (over 100k). I found a guy who only works on and sells subarus. He's telling me that they will easily go to 200k miles and more if maintained. Should I buy a used subaru? I'm looking at a 2010 and later. I work two miles from home and mostly do city driving within 10 or 15 miles.

Some are a good deal and some are not. It all depends on the car and the price. Have the car checked out before buying and do your research on prices. I would look for a low mile car. Hard to find but they are out there.

Thank you. Yes I'm going to have my mechanic look at it next week. It's a 2010 Outback 3.6r with 160k miles. I know it sounds crazy, but it's a beautiful, top of the line model, leather, heated seats, sun roof, GPS, back up camera etc. I really don't drive that many miles in a year so I'm hoping I can keep it going for many years to come. It's either pay 22k and up for a newer, low mileage car or pay under 8 k for a high mileage one and keep fingers crossed.

160k miles is a lot. I'd cross the fingers on both hands if buying that car.

If you drive 10k a year it will have 200,000 miles on it in 4 years.
