Available in GLS 450, GLS 580, and the high-performance AMG GLS 63, the GLS offered a range of standard features, including remote keyless entry, nine USB ports, and a 13-speaker Burmester sound system. Various option packages allowed for further customization, enhancing comfort and luxury.

In contrast, the 2021 Buick Enclave was a testament to Buick's resurgence, offering a spacious and comfortable ride. As the largest of Buick's SUV lineup, the Enclave harkened back to the brand's glory days while catering to modern SUV preferences. Available in Preferred, Essence, Premium, and Avenir trims, the Enclave competed with both mainstream and luxury three-row SUVs. The Avenir trim, in particular, added a touch of elegance with a unique grille, brightwork, and polished 20-inch wheels. Inside, the Enclave Avenir featured a minimalist design with organic forms and polished accents, complemented by soft leather seats. Despite its simplicity, the Enclave's interior was marked by a fussy electronic transmission shifter, which required some acclimatization. Overall, the Enclave offered a serene and comfortable cabin, making it a strong contender in its segment.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLS offered a range of powerful engine options, starting with the GLS 450's twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, producing 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The GLS 580 stepped up with a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, delivering 483 hp and 516 lb-ft. Both models featured a nine-speed automatic transmission and Mercedes' 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. The AMG GLS 63, however, was the pinnacle of performance, equipped with a hand-crafted 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine generating 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. This powerhouse allowed the AMG GLS 63 to sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds, with a top speed of 174 mph. The GLS also featured an adaptive air suspension system, providing a smooth ride and impressive cornering capabilities. Multiple drive modes allowed for customization of the driving experience, while the E-Active Body Control ensured a composed ride over rough terrain.

Fuel economy was rated at 21 mpg in combined driving, with a range of up to 460 miles on a full tank.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLS featured the advanced MBUX infotainment system, characterized by a massive touch screen and a simple trackpad controller. The system included Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, though a USB-C cable was required for connectivity. A standout feature was the voice-control system, activated by saying "Mercedes" or "Hey Mercedes," allowing for complex commands. The digital dash extended to the fully-digital instrument panel, both controlled by touch-sensitive pads on the steering wheel. While there was a learning curve, the system offered a wealth of technology and customization options.
