Originally introduced to the U.S. market in 2017, the Genesis G80 is now six years into its second generation. Prior to 2017 and before the Genesis brand was separated from parent company Hyundai, the G80 was known as the Hyundai Genesis sedan. It competes with popular European luxury sedans such as the Audi A6, the BMW 5 Series, and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

What’s New for the 2027 Genesis G80
The second-generation Genesis G80 debuted for the 2021 model year and received a refresh in 2025. For 2027, the rear badging that called out the model name, powertrain, and drivetrain configuration—which was unnecessary, because all G80 models feature all-wheel drive (AWD)—is gone, leaving only the Genesis script on the trunk lid. Black brake calipers, which were previously included on the 2.5T Sport Prestige AWD, 3.5T Sport Prestige AWD, and 3.5T Prestige Black AWD, are now limited to the Prestige Black trim. Inside, a front passenger memory seating system with smart posture care, power bolster and cushion extensions, and an Ergo Motion function (Genesis's name for its extra-comfortable seats) are new additions to the 3.5T Sport Prestige AWD and 3.5T Prestige Black AWD trim levels. Those fancy seats are designed to automatically adjust their shape to reduce fatigue on long trips. The same two trim levels also get a heated front center armrest and all 2027 Genesis G80 sedans feature a wireless device charger. Cavendish Red is a new color option for 2.5T and 3.5T Sport Prestige models.
Design
The Genesis G80 is a sleek and elegant luxury sedan that looks very different from its mainly German competitors. The Korean brand’s "Athletic Elegance" design philosophy includes unique styling elements such as double-line headlamps and a double-line crest grille. The double-line theme also spreads to the body with a pair of chrome trim elements on the fenders, and to the rear with the thin stacked taillamp design. Wheels range from 18 to 20 inches, and some wear unique patterns that stand out from anything else on the road.
Powertrain
A turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is standard in Genesis G80 2.5T models, producing 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. Genesis G80 3.5T models get a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that produces 375 hp and 391 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic is standard across the board, as is AWD. The EPA estimates that G80 2.5T AWD models will return 20 mpg in the city, 29 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined. G80 3.5T models are rated at 16 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.
Interior
The 2027 Genesis G80’s interior furnishings vary by trim level. Base 2.5T AWD and 2.5T Advanced AWD trims feature faux leather upholstery. The 2.5T Sport Prestige AWD gets standard leather in one of three colors, while the 3.5T Sport Prestige AWD gets the same color options but is upgraded to Nappa leather. The top-shelf 3.5T Prestige Black AWD gets black Nappa leather with a unique quilted pattern. With its low-mounted widescreen infotainment screen and three-spoke steering wheel, the Genesis G80 boasts good forward visibility thanks to the low-mounted display. Both the rotary infotainment dial and the rotary shift knob are mounted on the center console between the front seats, which can be confusing at first.
Technology
A 27-inch OLED screen sits low on the dashboard and combines a digital instrument cluster with the car’s touchscreen infotainment screen. The G80’s infotainment software is pretty easy to use and can accept inputs from the touchscreen, the rotary controller, or voice commands. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. A nine-speaker audio system is standard in the 2027 G80 2.5T AWD, but all other trim levels feature a Bang & Olufsen premium Audio system.
