The all-new 2027 BMW iX3 offers an electric take on the compact luxury utility vehicle segment. It’s a similar size to the extremely popular existing X3 SUV, but is an entirely different vehicle. The iX3 is priced and sized to compete with a range of electric SUVs such as the Audi Q6 e-tron, the Cadillac Optiq, the Genesis GV70, the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric, the Rivian R2, the Tesla Model Y, and the Volvo EX60.

What’s New for the 2027 BMW iX3
The iX3 is all-new for the 2027 model year. It debuts BMW’s Neue Klasse design language in SUV form, bringing new styling, exciting technology, and advanced electric powertrains. There was a vehicle that wore the iX3 badge several years ago, but it wasn't sold in the U.S. It’s also worth noting that the 2026 BMW iX, the brand’s previous electric SUV, is replaced by the iX3 and larger iX5 for 2027.
Design
After being previewed by several concept vehicles over the past few years, BMW’s Neue Klasse design language is highly evident in the 2027 iX3’s design. An interesting take on BMW’s signature kidney-shaped grilles leads the way, bracketed by wide swaths of black space and slash-shaped lighting elements. The well-known BMW roundel emblem sits in a V-shaped valley that runs from the top of the hood down to the grilles. The iX3’s bodysides look comparatively conservative, though there’s enough surface detailing to make them interesting. At the rear, the iX3’s wide taillights point toward another emblem, and a dramatic roof-mounted spoiler stands out as a sporty design element.
Powertrain
BMW launched the 2027 iX3 in the United States in iX3 50 xDrive form. It’s powered by a pair of electric motors that produce a combined output of 463 horsepower and 476 pound-feet of torque. That’s sufficient power for a 0–60 mph time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph. Depending on options and wheel size, the iX3 50 xDrive can travel between 383 and 434 miles on a full charge thanks to its 108.7-kWh battery pack. The iX3 can also charge very quickly thanks to a maximum rate of 400 kW, going from 10%–80% in as little as 21 minutes with the right kind of charger. Thanks to its standard Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) bi-directional charging functionality, the 2027 iX3 can also be used as a massive battery bank. The iX3 uses a North American Charging Standard (NACS) plug, making it compatible with Tesla Supercharger stations. A higher-powered iX3 M60 xDrive model will be available from spring 2027. It has a more powerful dual-motor system that makes 603 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque, enabling a 0–60 mph time of just 3.9 seconds.
Interior
The BMW iX3’s interior is dominated by screens, but somehow still manages to look classy and luxurious. An oddly shaped steering wheel (a more traditional option is also available) sits in front of the driver with spokes on the top and the bottom. Haptic multifunction buttons on the steering wheel light up when used. Faux leather upholstery comes standard, but real leather is available. The iX3’s cargo area measures 30.4 cubic feet with the rear seats in place, or up to 65 cubic feet with the back seat folded flat. There’s also a small two-cubic-foot front trunk (frunk).
Technology
Instead of a traditional gauge cluster, the BMW iX3 features Panoramic Vision technology that projects necessary data onto a strip at the base of the windshield. A 3D Head-Up Display is also available. Most functions are carried out through a large 17.9-inch Central Display infotainment screen that’s canted toward the driver. BMW’s latest Operating System X powers the technology package. BMW voice-activated Intelligent Personal Assistant is also included. It’s capable of giving the driver useful information and controlling vehicle functions including the HVAC, windows, seats, infotainment system, and more.
