Kia offers multiple electric vehicles in 2026, and the Kia Niro EV is the least expensive. Despite its position as one of the most reasonably priced EVs in America, the Niro EV isn’t bereft of features or interesting styling flourishes. It’s also conveniently sized for buyers who don’t have huge garages or often need to park in tight urban spaces.

What’s New for the 2026 Kia Niro EV
The current Kia Niro EV was introduced in 2023, and although there are no significant changes for 2026, it remains a stylish entry in the small electric vehicle segment. Buyers who like the Niro EV’s style and small size but don’t have a convenient place to charge an electric vehicle may want to consider the Niro Hybrid, which Kia also offers for the 2026 model year. A plug-in hybrid model was sold until 2025, but is no longer available.
Design
The Kia Niro EV’s exterior differs from its hybrid sibling in just a few ways, most notably the front fascia, which features a well-integrated charge door. Buyers looking for an electric car that doesn’t scream their eco-friendly intentions may appreciate its understated appearance. Details such as the rear Aero Blade (which can be painted a Steel Gray color that looks great on Snow White Pearl cars) and the tiger nose grille add interesting visual flair.
Powertrain
All 2026 Kia Niro EV models feature a 201-horsepower electric motor hooked up to a single-speed transmission powering the front wheels. All-wheel drive (AWD) is not available. A 64.8-kWh battery provides up to 253 miles of range, and while the Niro EV lacks the rapid charging speeds of the Tesla Model Y or Kia’s own EV6, it can still be charged from 10%–80% in less than 45 minutes with an appropriate DC fast charger.
Interior
The Kia Niro EV’s interior features seating surfaces made from biopolyurethane and Tencel—an eco-friendly fiber made from eucalyptus leaves. The electric model’s headliner is made from recycled wallpaper, and the door panels are coated with an environmentally friendly paint. Despite its small exterior, the 2026 Kia Niro EV offers a good amount of room for four adults. Its 22.8 cubic feet of space is easy to use and can grow to as much as 63.7 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat.
Technology
The 2026 Kia Niro EV comes standard with dual 10.25-inch digital displays in the dashboard. The one mounted in front of the driver serves as a digital instrument display, while the one in the center of the dash is a touchscreen unit. Navigation is standard, as are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Kia’s Smart Key technology with push-button start and remote start is also included on all Niro EV models.
