Type 3 4RUNNER might be the best Toyota ever made. Either 4 or 3.4 V6 especially 4x4 and even better if you can find a manual 5 speed 4x4.

The 1998 Toyota SUV Limited 4 Wheel drive is an excellent choice for those living in winter climates and need the extra insurance of never getting stuck.
The 4 Runner has always been one the best choices for overall durability
and I agree.

This car is excellent. it is my first car and I plan on keeping it for a long time. It takes me anywhere I need to go, up steep hills even in rain or snow. I am never snowed in because the 4runner can go anywhere.Jan 27, 2014

One of the best offroad vehicles you can buy. The 4runner never stops amazing me of it's capabilities. Comfort is amazing , with moderate fuel economy. Cargo room is not an issue when it comes to the 4runner. Will never get rid of this rig.Aug 30, 2013

This SUV has been a great addition to our family. It looks sharp, it's durable, roomy, and safe, and is in really good condition. It drives great and has all working features, automatic sun roof, power locks on doors, heater in front and back, a/c, tow package. Jan 08, 2013

for a vehicle that is over 10 years old, i see many on the road and it still looks like a recent model - its a great vehicle. its the most reliable vehicle ive ever owned. Over the past 10+ years, its had very few maintenance issues. ive taken great care and it has rewarded me with reliability.Nov 14, 2012

These particular 4runners are still in high demand for starter SUVs or that 4WD enthusiast wanting a little more room than a Jeep. The electronic Differential control works well for occasional off roading or boat ramps. The seating wears well and can be easily maintained or replaced at a very low cost if required. Maintenance on toyota trucks is legendarily affordable and many owners are getting in excess of 400K miles out of the truck with routine maintenance. These factors combine to provide a great all around SUV, and for the money, it's a steal.Jul 29, 2012

Purchased new from Toyota dealership in May 1997. Very reliable, gets decent gas mileage for a late model SUV. Good hauling capacity. Great traveling vehicle. The steering is tight and more like a car than a truck. She's getting some miles on her now (currently 118,000) but still going strong. Recently bought new tires and it still drives like the day I drove it off the lot. With continued TLC, I'm hoping for another 15 years out of itJul 10, 2012

This car has quick and precise handling, easy acceleration and you can whip right into parking space as if it was a car. You will be pleased to know that even at 14years old, this car requires minimum maintenance or repairs. Car still starts right up and runs smoothly. AC blows cold and cover the back area well. The appearance is traditional and even a 97 model with new wheels and tires looks great. SUV has solid craftmanship. The cost of gas beats any SUV now on the market - up to 25MPG. The SUV is great for school and sports moms. Great for traveling on just a great for a round about town SUV. I love love this vehicle!!Jun 05, 2011

Needs more power! TRD Supercharger will be the
first
upgrade. Works great off road, with factory rear
diff.
lock and higher than average ground clearance. Of
course it is much more fun to drive off-road! Gas
mileage is OK for an SUV. Can't beat the build
quality - it's built in Japan at the same plant they
make the Landcruiser / LX.Sep 26, 2009

This is the perfect combination of everything you could ever need in a car/truck. Awesome build quality, reliability, and resale; seats five, great leg room, huge storage space, sturdy roof rack and 5400lb tow capacity; narrow size and small turning radius for easy parking; 16/22 mpg with a 200HP V6 makes for economy and power; power everything, all kinds of options availible; and styling that will never get old. Truly a timeless car.Mar 31, 2008

To me, it is one of those cars that do not de-value in it's likeability. At 106K miles, it still looks cool, rides tough and I feel safe with my family in it. I've only made few repairs and no major problems. I paid $32K in 1997 and feel it was a very good investment.Sep 11, 2007

Vehicle was powerful before the 90,000 mile service. It drives through deep snow, wet or powder, without any hesitation. Highway riding is comftable with the right tires. I like a dependable vehicle and this Toyota is built well.Aug 31, 2007
