hi i owed a 1979 accord hatchback for about 5 years found it a joy to drive
nippy great handling round bends, and ultra reliable, good room with the seats down at the back,
probable still my favorite all time car for reliability comfort and handling,
even against some german cars i have owed,
the ex were more refined for there day with electric roof window and ariel, big chucky chrome buttons, no compromising
in build qulity,
its a shame about the rust as im sure it would have still be running today,
would gladly trade my audi a4 tdi in for another one no computer ecu issues that can be expensive just good straight car that did not show compromise when first,
built,
a truely great car like no other that i,ve owed in over 20 years driving

1st car in high school, 1990. I had an 86 Escort for 1 month
with a manual...then, I received this Honda from my Dad. It
was way superior to the 86 Escort. Impressive for a 79.
Loved the interior. Fat sporty 4 spoke steering wheel. Nifty
storage compartments including a
handy coin box. Nice big gauges. Everything was within easy
reach. Good space for 4. Purred like a kitten, handled well,
nice acceleration (even though it was a Honda-matic).
It went through 2 transmissions, 2 master cylinders, over
heated twice... 2 rebuilds... and only had like 90k. So I would
say there was "bugs" in the early models. Still, the packaging
of this time for Honda was perfect. I am not a fan of the
weighty overly complicated cars they make now. Give me a
nice interior, good quality design, and manual windows. Nov 15, 2010

I absolutely loved my Honda. Gave it away in 1993 and regret it. What a great car! Performance wasn't bad for for an "Economy" car. Seemed to brake and hadnle well.
Big hatch door. Loved the interior. Fun to drive.Jul 31, 2009

I had three Honda Accords. The first two were on their last legs I picked up as beaters to get me to school. The last one was in good shape and I had it a few years. Very nice cars for their day. Fun to drive, great fuel economy, very comfortable ride and very reliable. Even the Junkers I had ran forever they just rusted to death. Dec 30, 2008

I bought the car almost exactly a year ago (Aug. 2007) with
143k miles, since then I have put about 6k miles on it. I was skeptical at first because of its age, but It has been an incredible
car. The previous owner had taken excellent care of the car and
the body was in near-perfect shape. The body had a few rust
spots around the wheel wells and in unnoticeable places under
the body. The interior was excellent, except for a torn driver's
seat. The dashboard had no discoloration, the seats are
incredibly clean. The interior was roomy, even filled with a
maximum of four passengers, the car still felt very roomy. I
suppose things could get uncomfortable with very tall people,
however. The car had mediocre power, suitable enough for town
and city driving, the car gets terrible gas mileage on highways
and interstates (due to a 3-speed automatic, the car is geared
very low). However, you can run the engine faster because it is a
4-cylinder and it is designed to be able to run faster without the
engine getting too warm. The steering is excellent as well in the
car, but I had to replace the rack in pinion six months ago, due
to the mechanism leaking. The handling is still incredible. I have
had no electrical problems with the car, and everything in the
car works (even the clock in the dash). I had to replace the
alternator belt because it was frayed, but I expect other minor
problems with belt in hoses that are still the original from the
car. The car is very easy to work on. Overall, the car is fun to
drive and very solid. Honda lives up to its reputation for
dependable automobiles.Aug 25, 2008

Interior was full of little flip lid stash pockets and other little gizmos. My car was silver and had black interior. Cloth and PVC seats that were really comfortable.1600cc engine which was big enough in the early 90's as it was my first car. I would have driven it for more years than 2 if some prat kept his speed down while driving on an iced up lane..Fancy writing off a parked car!! Cheers who ever you are.Jan 09, 2008

One of my favorite Hondas. Innovative & revolutionary at the time. Raised
the bar for US auto maker build quality that the US are just now jumping
over.Nov 29, 2007
