Aside from a few minor cosmetic issues, the car is fantastic. I would buy another one tomorrow. Its very nice to have a diesel again.Aug 19, 2020

This Diesel is amazing. Extremely comfortable and the paint is stunning. The Handling and the brakes are distinctively BMW. The Panoramic Sunroof is a must for the kids especially during sightseeing trips. The 360 degree view and the parking sensors are outstanding, way better than the standard rear view. Finally the BMW XDrive keeps you sure footed at all times!Feb 23, 2015

The x5 defiantly has some pep for what would be called a 'mom car'. The handling is also top notch for a Sports Activity Vehicle. This is about as fun to drive as any SUV could be. It competes with the best, thats for sure.Nov 06, 2014

I recently bought this vehicle for my expanding family. I test drove many vehicles before deciding on the BMW X5. Here is what I like about it. The driving position and seat is excellent for this type of vehicle and the vehicle's dynamics are much better than most competitors. The steering is not terribly communicative but it is more precise than I expected from a vehicle this heavy. The brake feel is good, but I can't really comment on their performance at this point. This is the first vehicle with an automatic transmission I have owned, and I'm less bothered by it than I expected. Gear changes are smooth and quick, and the 8-speed is a great mate for the N55 (3.0L T I6) engine. The interior is bright (with the sunroof shade drawn) and spacious. My parents visited recently and the X5 accommodated four adults and a car seat with the wee one in comfort. The engine is strong and smooth, and makes a good sound when you put your foot into it. I tried the xdrive50 (with the 4.4L TT V8) and decided the xdrive35 is a better match for schlepping around town. I really like the iDrive control; I find it fast and intuitive. Fit and finish is good and the vehicle is quiet and comfortable at any speed.
What didn't I like? The steering is a bit heavy at low speeds. This wouldn't be bad if it were more communicative, but it's not, especially with respect to on-centre feel. Some of the plastic feels and sounds cheap when you touch it. I think VW does a better job of this, even in the Golf. Another thing VW does better is ergonomics of control knobs and buttons. BMWs seem to lack consistency of how controls work and how they look and feel. Some controls, for example the volume/power knob for the audio system looks and feels quite different from the other controls. Contrast this with VW, who make every control look and feel exactly the same. Also, the back seat is a bit low (or the seat is a bit short). This is nit-picking; for the most part, I really like it.Oct 26, 2014

This is a great car. It looks good, reliable, comfortable, etc. I really can't say anything bad about this car! Lots of room in the back seats for passengers and tons of space in the back/truck area. Love this car!Oct 09, 2014

Great buy! I love it! I can go everywhere comfortable and safe. It feels good on the road. Sounds like a Porsche. The sport package add stability and great look. I will strongly recommend this BMW SUV. Looking forward to many years of fun with my BMWX5 4.8iSep 13, 2014

I've never really been much of a SUV or truck guy but when our baby boy was born, priority and preference were gone. We needed something big enough to for our growing family and began looking at the X5. What I can say is that the 3.0l turbo motor really makes this SUV get up and go and the handling and braking are so superb, you might just forget you are driving an SUV!Aug 04, 2014

The BMW x5 is a driving machine. Sturdy, well made, safe and luxurious! BMW knows what they are doing. Plenty of room for three adults in back seat. Plenty of cargo space while still driving like a precision vehicle despite it's SUV category.Jun 25, 2014

This SUV has excellent performance and drives like a dream. Great styling and the panoramic roof is a must have. Leather seats are comfortable and wear well. Easy to see out of and rear view camera makes it a breeze to park and backup.Apr 09, 2014

There really isn't enough words to justify this car. The entire series seems to get better with every model. Just on performance alone the car beats any other in its class. Braking and handling makes it feel more of a sports car than a heavy SUV.May 29, 2013

The X5 just keeps getting better. The 50i has the same
performance/acceleration as my 335. This is one FAST SUV! Don't get
me wrong, it's big and heavy, but it performs like a car half its weight.
What's more, the 50i uses less fuel than the 4.8 it replaced! It's better,
faster and more fuel efficient. Perfect performance oriented family
vehicle! I love it!Apr 29, 2012

You cannot go wrong with the X5. I own one and will continue to support the X series. Not only does the vehicle drive great but the interior is very spacious and comfortable. Ideal for family. I really enjoy and highly recommend this vehicle! Apr 21, 2012

This vehicle combines the power and handling of a sports car with the utility of a SUV. It has great creature comforts and although you pay top dollar for them, the add ons are worth it..
Great cruising range due to it being a diesel and getting 28 plus miles per gallon on the highway at reasonable highway speeds (70 - 75 mph)Feb 07, 2012

Have only owned for a couple of days, but already am loving it! Power,
handling, style, comfort are all excellent. Would like to have better gas
mileage, but, hey, it's a V8!
This car is a real joy to drive!
After six months, and no real adverse weather yet, I can still say I am very
pleased with its performance! Put the shift selector in Sport mode, which
raises the shift points, and the acceleration is quick!
Have a bit of an issue getting the Nav system to reliably read updated map
DVDs, but otherwise, the tech aspects are very nice.
Had to replace battery (4 years old), which cost a little under $200. Got
the rear brakes replaced under warranty.
All in all, I am very happy with it. Would definitely buy it again!!!Jun 25, 2011

BMW X5 Xdrive 35d is the best model you can get. The car is mainly used for long
journeys as it is cheap for fuel and has got the best MPG out of all of my cars.
Never had any problems with the car, and it is quite fast. It looks nice on the
exterior and interiorMay 15, 2011

Performance - acceleration is excellent especially at pick up, good & effective
brakes easy to handle.
Build Quality - Perfect.
Appearance - attractive interior, needs a little pimping on the exterior.
Cost of Ownership - not cheap to maintain, gas is a little expensive.
Fun Factor - it feels good to drive. Apr 02, 2011

A fantastic drivers car with exhilarating performance, tremendous handling, all the practicalities of an SUV, great build quality, loads of gadgetry, down side a bit heavy on the juice around town, but good on a long run. Overall a great fun drive with the practiclity of a safe family car.Oct 09, 2009

Classy, Luxurious, powerful, elegant, prestige, well built, drives beautifully, need I say more ? This Car is one of the best cars that there is in the luxury 4x4 market, it is unparralel l and a cut above the rest of the other cars. Some get close i.e Range Rover but it can never drive as well as an X5.Jul 31, 2008

I got this SUV when it first came out back in the summer of 2007. Since it was the first round of production some glitches/problems are inevitable. This SUV has amazing handling, probably the best handling SUV out there. The acceleration is above average, but is no ML65 AMG or Cayenne GTS. The ride quality is can be adjusted between sport mode and normal, riding on 20's and having a stiffer suspension you expect to feel a bit more bumps on the road. Although I didn't go for the third row seat, I saw it at the dealership and I is absolutly useless unless you are 3 feet tall. The head up display is really neat, it shows speed, cruise control, and directions on the windshield; so that you can keep your eyes on the road. The rear camera is good during the day, showing turning lines which are super helpful. When it gets dark out, the camera becomes really blurry. In my mind, I think that the X5 has the nicest interior compared to its competitors and a monkey can figure out iDrive. Overall I really enjoy driving this SUV eventhough I can see the gas gauge go down every time I get excited.Apr 02, 2008
