Out of 60 vehicles over the course of 45 years this was the most incredible one. No modifications, all stock, naturally aspirated 4.8 liter V8 with stunning performance and handling, a real sleeper sport sedan. I surprised a lot of people out on the open road. In my last days of ownership I put it on the track for a day of high performance driving instruction. Even the instructor was surprised at its performance and got a big kick out of instructing me to pass a C8 on 2 occasions and even a Viper ACR. It wasn’t that they couldn’t have run away from me, however they had less experience. Less of a car could not have done it and it did it at speeds in excess of 135 mph. When we pitted on one occasion, however, the BMW was billowing smoke which I knew was only an oil leak but one of the other instructors nearly called down the fire team. This is the cars design flaw that was fatal to my ownership. Oil leaks that are overwhelming and extremely expensive to repair. If you’re looking to buy one, you also better be looking for oil leaks I’m sad to say.Mar 26, 2023

I love driving this car. I feel very safe and I love having heated seats, a heated steering wheel and all the other bells and whistles. I love driving a BMW and i don't know if I can ever go back to driving anything else.Aug 27, 2014

Love the car, great engine, don't need to worry about the turbo, or injectors it just runs smooth, keep up the maintenance and never have any issues. It is a great car, the only downside I would say is trunk space, it is a little limited especially when it comes to golf clubs.Aug 25, 2014

Combination of luxury and Performance sedan. Car is great to drive and has good backseat room as well as cargo room in trunk. Great gas mileage on highway for a 360 HP sedan. Put the car in Sport Mode and you will enjoy the low end torque in the city as well. Fun to drive.Apr 14, 2014

Like riding on rails and training wheels, I love that. Acceleration is nimble, cornering stability is excellent.
Climate control could be better especially as the weather warms. I would like to bring outside air at any temperature without having to open windows.
Replaced the ac compressor at 98k miles which was still under warranty so I only dished out 50 bucks.
Replaced all air hoses at 130k parts 75 bucks. 6 hours labor, no sweat. Easiest car ever to work on. I'm out of warranty obviously so I do all my maintenance.
Replaced all front lights from time to time a little tedious but easy. Added first replacement new battery from Walmart 118 bucks December 2012, no problems whatsoever.
When working on the brakes it is cheaper to put new rotors and pads from Bosh. Did all 4, cost 155 bucks. At 130k miles. It runs like new. I do all my oil changes now and general service. It's almost fun to do..Mar 29, 2014

I absolutely love this car, BMW is the only way to go. Once you sit behind the wheel, get comfortable and take off you will not be disappointed. This car has it all and they left nothing out. Looks great and super fun to drive.Feb 27, 2014

It's my first 5-series and I love it - what more can I say?
It's powerful, it handles extremely well, and it is very comfortable for long and short trips. The back seat is big enough for adults, the trunk can actually fit enough luggage for a trip, and the interior amenities are what you'd expect for a car of it's class.Jan 18, 2014

The BMW 5 series is comfortable, spaceous, fully featured, relaxing, and reliable. Everyone needs to drive one of these in their life. Opt for the lumbar and cold weather package and you will never be disappointed. Ultimate Driving Machine indeed.Oct 06, 2013

Good low range torque, slick and understated.
Very good sport sedan with a solid V-8.
Very quiet interior - definitely a head turner.
Great exterior color and really nice looking wheels.
iDrive takes some getting used to and the LED screen is a bit datedApr 11, 2013

This is the legendary 5 series - with a V8. And with the Sports package. Nothing compares to it in this class. If you have not driven one then do yourself a favor and check this out. It will put a smile on your face.Apr 07, 2013

This car is great! It looks good, it drives great and it took great care of our family on trips to NY, FL and everywhere in between. The engine loves to go fast and gets great gas mileage doing it. We got lucky finding a 6 speed manual right near home, 5 Series in MT are rare these days.Jan 11, 2013

Performance - above par.
Quality - most exact specs of a car. Tight fit, no rattles.
Appearance - sleeper and sensible. An acquired taste to like.
Reliability - it has not disappoint me yet.
Super fun to drive, versatile, spacious, and room for my dog.Aug 03, 2012

though it has only a 2 liter diesel motor it performs very well, 165 horsepowers and yet very great milage. accelerates almost like a v8 and breaks are very powerful. it is a very beautiful car inside and out and a perfect build i think, it is perfectly sound insulated, almost no road sound and music sounds great in it. it has needed repairs and parts are not cheap. a very comfortable car and great to driveFeb 12, 2012

I drive a LOT 1000 miles a week. And I finally feel safe and comfortable when I'm travelling. It handles great. It is very quick but not at jumping off the line from a dead stop. The trade off is I get GREAT gas mileage. The car is wonderfully engineered. And it is beautifully detailed inside and out. If you get one, get a cargo organizer for the trunk and get some storage for the interior if you carry a lot of things. I do get a little bit of aggression on the road. I don't drive aggressively but people get aggressive with me in the BMW. Interesting and true. I drove a 2011 528i for 2 weeks while my DVD was being swapped out. I do NOT like it as well as the 2008. I do like the Nav better but it's bigger, harder to see around it, feels wrong, the Cruise controls arene't like the 08- I don't like them. The 2008 is still sports-like. the 2011 is more luxury feeling. I prefer the smaller feel and sports handling of the 08. The Continental tires are not the run-flats and I am still putting miles on this original set at 89000 miles on the odometer. The run-flats are expensive and my friends have had to replace theirs at 30K miles. The MPG is higher with the Continentals too.
I love this car. Jan 29, 2012

Solid all around car, above average in all categories, not a top performer in any category. Solid build quality and lasting too. The M-Tech body kit definite improvement over stock.
Just fun enough to compliment it's sedan platform, almost as if it has dual personalities.Oct 19, 2011

Great car, good performance, good acceleration, handling. Build Quality -
solid German engineering. Very reliable and no repair issues. Quality
interior and exterior design. A fun car to drive. BMW cost of ownership =
$0 maintenance - all good. Would buy again. One of 2 BMW's we own.Jun 07, 2011

Performance is excellent and immediate. Doors so solid it's like a vault. Safety concerns are virtually eliminated. Lots compliments on appearance and quality, which I don't mind. The interior is as handsome as the interior and very comfortable. It'll spoil you.Nov 15, 2010

My 3rd BMW, only owned for 2 months; Purchased as CPO with 41K miles, really loaded with options. Performance is stellar; loves mountain roads. Premium and sport packages with sport automatic trany make the car so much more. Economy is good (especially for a 300 HP car).Aug 15, 2010

I love this car, how it feels, handles & accelerates. Braking is awesome and
spent a day on the track with a pro on how to drive really really fast. The
only think that bugs me about the car are the squeaky door seals. It is
annoying. Jul 03, 2010

My 550 came equipped with M5 Rims and rubber. Found the car slighly rough on the bumps and roads but more than made up for it with precise handling and amazing performance. I have owned and driven Cadilac, Jaguar, Pontiac GTP, Camaro and others. Nothing, absolutely nothing, compares to the performance and fit and finish of the BMW. Would reccommed it to anyone. Great car.Jan 20, 2010

Had my 2006 525i just over a month now. Bought with 63k miles on it. The handling with the sport package is unreal. True sport sedan that hangs with sports cars through the twisties. The 215 hp engine is smooth, sounds great and provides decent acceleration, but could still use more power. Comfortable, roomy and fast, this car is a joy to drive.Sep 27, 2009

Firstly, the correct car was not present in the search on this thing - the actual car is the BMW 520d SE 2008.
This is the ultimate driving machine. A 2.0Tdi going 0-60 in 8 seconds is unbelievable, and this is down to BMW. They are German, they have years of experience and they do build technically great cars. Handling is sharp for such a big car and the breaks are superb!
Needless to say the build quality from BMW is excellent, no problems to report! The interior of the car is very nice, but nothing really special, little features like the steering wheel moving up and down as you get in and out are pretty cool! The exterior is not to everyone's taste, personally i like it, and i am very glad it doesn't have the standard wheels on it, they are horrible!
Excellent mpg for such a big car, if it is driven sensibly you can get 48-55mpg!
The car is awesome to drive, even if it is on the large side, and the looks of jealousy and hate you get are quite cool lol!
I would deffinately recommend to a friendFeb 28, 2009
