The 2024 BMW 3 Series is the latest iteration of one of the cornerstones of the compact luxury sedan market. It effortlessly blends performance, comfort, and technology all into one sharp four-door package.
What’s New for the 2024 BMW 3 Series
The 2024 BMW 3 Series is one year removed from an update that featured refreshed styling and the availability of wireless device charging. For the 2024 model year, the changes are minimal and the vehicle is largely a carryover.
Design
While its coupe counterpart, the 4 Series, has embraced BMW's new large, garish grille design, the 3 Series retains a more restrained approach to its front-end design. This complements the more traditional sedan profile, capped off by standard 18-inch alloy wheels. A selection of 18-inch and 19-inch wheel options are available. The 3 Series is available in 330i, 330e, and M340i variants.
Powertrain
The 2024 BMW 330i comes equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It produces 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The 330e is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) that combines a turbo-four with a battery and electric motor to put out a combined 288 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
For the performance enthusiast, look to the M340i. It’s powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that makes 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. All three of these engines route power through an eight-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels or to available xDrive all-wheel drive (AWD). The M340i xDrive can sprint from zero to sixty in just 4.1 seconds. If that’s not quick enough for you, there’s always the weapons-grade BMW M3 (listed as a separate model).
The 330i returns fuel economy of 25 mpg city, 34 highway, and 29 combined. Fuel economy for the 330i xDrive is 24 mpg city, 33 highway, and 27 combined. Both the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and xDrive AWD versions of the M340i return 23 city, 31 highway, and 26 combined. The 3 Series requires premium fuel. At the time of this writing, the fuel economy and electric range for the 330e have not yet been stated.
Interior
The 3 Series comes standard with synthetic leather upholstery, sport power-adjustable front seats, and a fully digital instrument panel. Available features include genuine leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a number of sporty interior styling upgrades.
Technology
The standard infotainment system on the 2024 3 Series is a large curved touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is available with a 16-speaker Harman Kardon premium stereo system, as well as wireless device charging.
Safety
The 3 Series comes standard with a host of driver-assistance features, including forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, adaptive headlights, automatic high beams, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
Pricing
At the time of this writing, the 2023 BMW 3 Series has a base MSRP of $44,500 for the 330i. The plug-in hybrid 330e starts at $45,600 and the potent M340i starts at $57,600. The BMW 3 Series is backed by a four-year/50,000-mile powertrain warranty, and the plug-in 330e PHEV’s battery is backed by an eight-year/80,000-mile warranty.
