The 2022 Lincoln Aviator is a refined, powerful, and versatile midsize luxury SUV. It provides three rows of seating with capacity for seven. With the optional second-row captain's chairs, capacity falls to six. With all rear seats folded, the Aviator provides 77.7 cubic feet of cargo space, which is good for the class. With the second-row seats in use, the Aviator provides 41.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row. With all seats in use, the Aviator provides 18.3 cubic feet of space being the third row. The Aviator is largely unchanged from the 2021 model year.
Trims for the 2022 Aviator are Standard, Reserve, Grand Touring, and Black Label. The Standard trim comes equipped with 19-inch wheels, a power liftgate, synthetic leather upholstery, three-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, 10-way power-adjustable front seats, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a 10-speaker stereo system. The Aviator also comes equipped with an intuitive touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and Android Auto.
Moving up to the Reserve trim adds 20-inch wheels, genuine leather upholstery, 12-way power-adjustable front seats, second-row captain’s chairs, quad-zone climate control, wireless device charging, and navigation.
The Grand Touring trim adds 21-inch wheels and a plug-in hybrid powertrain. This powertrain is also found in the Black Label, which also adds 22-inch wheels and power soft-closing doors.
No matter what trim you select, the Aviator is powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 engine. It makes 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent through a 10-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels or available all-wheel drive (AWD). The Grand Touring and Black Label trim come equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that provides a combined 494 horsepower and can travel up to 21 miles on battery power alone.
The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Aviator returns fuel economy of 18 mpg city, 26 highway, and 21 combined. The AWD version returns 17 mpg city, 24 highway, and 20 combined. The plug-in hybrid powertrain provides 56 MPGe (miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent). When the electric power is depleted, the hybrid powertrain returns 23 mpg combined.
The Lincoln Aviator comes with an extensive list of standard driver-assistance features, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. There are some additional safety features that are either optional or come equipped on higher-level trims, such as adaptive headlights, a 360-degree parking monitor, lane-centering adaptive cruise control, road-sign recognition, and hands-free park assist.
Base MSRP for the 2022 Lincoln Aviator is $51,465 for the Standard trim. The Reserve starts at $57,355, and the Grand Touring starts at $68,360. The range-topping Black Label trim starts at $79,350. The Aviator is backed by a six-year/70,000-mile warranty.
