The 2022 Kia Rio5 is a nimble, economical hatchback that merges function and frugality. It provides the essentials, but it also delivers on modern in-car tech features. This plucky hatchback offers up to 32.8 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded and 17.4 cubic feet with the rear seats in use.
The Rio five-door is available in only one trim, the S trim. It comes standard with 15-inch steel wheels with plastic covers, cloth upholstery, a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. Optional features include 15-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, chrome door handles, a color driver display, and remote keyless entry.
Kia offers one engine in the Rio 5-Door, a 1.6-liter four-cylinder. It makes 120 horsepower and 112 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission. This combination returns EPA-estimated fuel economy of 33 mpg city, 41 highway, and 36 combined.
Unfortunately, many of the advanced safety features that shoppers have come to expect are not standard on the Rio five-door. Features such as forward-collision avoidance, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning are all part of an available Technology Package.
The 2022 Kia Rio five-door has a base MSRP of $17,090 in its singular trim. The Technology Package costs $1,800 and adds the aforementioned safety features, as well as satellite radio and automatic climate control. The 2022 Kia Rio is backed by a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
